"Why the fuck wouldn’t you split all of this into separate Works, you dope?"
Reasons? I always have reasons. And just like with my Kinktober work (which I’m skipping this year, and that's a metric ton of upsetting), this has the benefit of a nice little glossary. That’s enough, right?
Chapter 2: Bucky/Tony - "Armor Theory" (for coralreefpool) (6.2k)

“Borrowing,” Tony says into the hacked comms of the team that used to be his and now keeps insisting they are better off without him.
He flips his wrist. The gauntlet blooms into a sleek restraint as the field hum deepens when Bucky’s arm answers in a sympathetic shiver Tony feels through haptics. Even if it’s metal to metal, Tony designed all of it—magnets that slam Bucky into his armor—to feel like an embrace, but if anyone asks, it’s all strictly business.
“Say ‘red’ and I let go,” Tony murmurs, but that one’s for Steve’s benefit.
“You think that’s funny?” Bucky narrows his eyes.
“I think it’s consent, Sergeant,” Tony smirks under his helmet. “Also a color. Multipurpose. You asked what it would take. This. It will take this.”
Chapter 3: Steve/Rhodey - "Saint Steve" (for RoseRose) (2.2k)

Steve’s a good man, but that’s the trouble with reputations. People get it in their heads that “good” means “saint,” and suddenly you can’t sneeze without someone acting like you just blessed ‘em. Not joking, you hold a door open, throw a shield at a couple of fascists, and pose for one unfortunate poster, next thing you know you’re supposed to be walking on water and pissing holy.
Forget it.
Steve’s from Brooklyn, not Bethlehem. Call it a character flaw, if you must, but nobody in his neighborhood ever got anywhere by being nice all the time. Nice’ll get you mugged, or worse, stuck buying a round for the whole bar, and this is just some scratch to be made at the expense of Bucky’s catastrophic love life.
Chapter 4: Bucky/Clint - "Where it hurts" (for oper_1895) (4.5k)

Clint watches the side of Bucky’s face do a thing—creases that aren’t frown lines, a curve of his mouth that isn’t a lie—and thinks it’s fucking sad it takes a dog to bring that out. Clint’s a bit like a dog too, if only Bucky’d see past him being a dude.
Chapter 5: Logan/John (Pyro) - "I'd kill at that game" (for Ruquas) (4.7k)

There’s this half-memory John has, of spacing out to some crusty-ass movie playing on the TV, his mom already gone, while his dad’s upstairs, zipping up a duffel. The screen's grainy, the volume too loud, and someone's pissing. Not in the house, but on the screen there's a guy in ruined jeans, hands shaking while he keeps flicking a lighter. He’s got, like, ten tries he can’t fuck up, and if he does, no fancy car for him, but, chop, off goes a finger.
John’s only twelve, so the concept is both brutal and awesome.
He’s not really following the plot, plot’s garbage, but John crawls closer to the screen, and really wants to tell it: ‘Dude, I’d kill at that game, and that's why my dad’s leaving.’
His dad doesn’t say goodbye, John doesn’t cry, but lies there on the ratty floor like a discarded sock, and leaves too at some point after Professor finds him.
“Would you rather stop playing with that fucking lighter or lose a finger?” Years later, when Logan asks him, John remembers that movie again.
Chapter 6: Bucky/Tony - "Worth it" (for massivespacewren) (10.4k)

Big, crinkly-eyed, stomach-deep laugh because he still finds joy in things. Stupid things. And Tony, piece of shit that he is, kind of wants to cry about it.
Because what the hell. This man. This heart-attack in a Henley.
He’s better.
Better than the file Tony had on him. Better than the haunted footnotes in Steve’s voice when he used to talk about him. Better than the myth, the weapon, the walking news report. He’s warm. Steady. He’s kind. Sure, he’s still got enough walls to rival Tony’s, and that’s a very high fence, but once you’re in, you get this. This version. This Bucky.
Chapter 7: Bucky/Steve - "Offered, not taken" (for Lynlee494) (4.5k)

Tony can joke all he wants and can shove his congratulations where the sun doesn’t shine, but cradling omegas who don’t know where they are isn’t decent. Steve’s not a prude, he’s seen enough, been through enough, and done enough, but come on, this isn’t how you handle someone who is running in their head and can’t catch up to a single thought except for ‘hide, shelter.’

It pauses. Good goo. Then retreats. For about three seconds. Then reappears, swaying side to side, approaching Tony’s leg with the enthusiasm of a needy snake. Tony scoots further away. It mirrors him, he mirrors it, and then it droops like it’s sad about the distance.
Great. Tony loves being manipulated by sentient tar.
Chapter 9: Bucky/Clint - "Easy is for other people" (for iseult1124) (7.5k)

“Didn’t say I was.” Barnes still doesn’t react in any expected way. He doesn’t look at Tony. Couldn’t stop looking at him, gave up, glared at him from his position on his knees with hands behind his head as they got surrounded and over twenty guns got pointed at Tony’s true mate. And now… now he’s not looking at him anymore.
Chapter 11: Bruce/Bucky - "Hulk things" (for stillcentre) (2.3k)

A weird way to put down a monster, with words, that’s all Bucky thinks, since Bucky’s own monster is brought out with them instead. The difference between them is that Bruce's monster is big and green and out in the open, and Bucky is all knives and silence, and the one the team wouldn’t see or hear coming until it is too late.
(Irrational fear, according to Steve. But who is to say that triggers are really gone? Or that Bucky needs triggers.)
