Don't You Shy Away

Summary:

Chad sat on his couch, sinking into the plush leather cushions, willing himself to just send that damn message. Why was he making this so hard for himself? Chad was overthinking everything. It could just be read as a friendly invitation, one colleague to another. A, “Hey, you want to come over for lunch with my family?” No, that sounded too… nice. Robert might get the wrong idea. Well, the right idea but that would be too soon, wouldn't it? Maybe, “Hey bitch, I know your sad little fridge is always empty, so, you want to come have some lunch?” Chad sat, his thumb hovering over his phone’s keyboard and he let out a loud groan. Why was he making this such a big deal?

Flambae decides to invite Robert over for some lunch with his family and... just falls for the man even harder.

Chapter Text

He was acting like a fucking pussy, all because of his little crush on his dispatcher.

“Fuck it.” he mumbled and quickly rewrote his message, just a tad less hostile.
Hey bitch, you want to come over for lunch? I told my niece about your dog and she can’t stop talking about how she wants to meet him.
His finger was, yet again, hovering over the send button when his phone suddenly started vibrating and a caller ID popped up on the screen. He quickly pressed “Accept” and brought it up to his ear.

“Hey bae!” the cheerful voice on the other line responded and Chad’s mouth quirked upwards into a smile on reflex.
“Hey Alice. Whazzup?” he responded as he got off his couch and headed to his bedroom, still needing to decide on an outfit for today.
“Bitch, y’know what’s up! Have you asked him yet?”
Chad let out a loud sigh and pressed his phone against his shoulder blade and ear while he wrung through his clothing hangers.
“No… But I was about to before you called.”
“Listen, bae, just do it. It’s not that much of a big deal. It’s just a simple text, for a simple lunch. I mean, if he says no, which I doubt he will, it would have just seemed like a nice gesture on your part. And to be honest, I think that white boy’s so oblivious anyways.”
“Well, that’s another problem!” Chad scoffed as he threw a shirt back on his bed as he continued to look for more options. “Like, I don’t want this to seem like a date-date, y’know? But I also don’t want him to not pick up on anything!”
He heard Prism scuffling around in the background before she replied.
“Look, we know Robert didn’t want Blazer or Invisigal, so… maybe he doesn’t swing that way! I mean, this is your chance bitch! I mean, what did Courtney call him again? A-”
“A twunk.” Chad sighed, resting the palm of his hand on his forehead for a second.

He knew Prism was only feeding into his delusions right now, but what was the worst that could happen? Robert could just say no and Chad could finally get over his stupid “crush” and hit his head against the wall. No, he wouldn't do that. He didn’t even know what he saw in that man, and Prism didn’t either, but she appointed herself as Chad’s wing-woman nonetheless.

“You still listening bitch? If you don’t do it I’mma come right over there and send it to him myself. Don’t play with me, I know your password.”
Chad let out a light scoff disguising his small smile. “Okay, okay. I will, bitch. Chat to you later?”
Prism laughed, “Yeah. I want to hear all about it when you’re done. You better have fucked by the end of all this or so help me.”
“Oh my god, shut the fuck up.” Chad replied as he flopped back down on his satin bedsheets as Prism let out another laugh, said a quick bye and ended the call.

He flicked back into his messages, staring at his unsent message for a second before hitting send and shutting his phone off immediately and getting up from his bed. He headed to his bathroom to have a quick shower and wash his hair. As he got out, dried himself and then headed back to his bedroom when he gingerly picked up his phone to see if Robert had replied. His eyes widened somewhat as he saw the reply.
“Sure. What time?”
Chad quickly typed back a reply offering to fetch Robert as well, if he needed. The small dot near his icon didn’t light up to show he was online so Chad continued to get himself ready.

He sprayed some of his signature fragrance all over his chest, neck and wrists, waiting for it to absorb into his skin as he quickly put some hair oil in his long, dark locks and blow dried his hair. He then unwrapped the towel from his waist and got ready. He grabbed the straight, black jeans he had laid out on the bed and yanked them on, pulling a plain black belt through the loops. He then looked back at the three shirts he had thrown onto his sheets. A maroon button up, a white tank top and a short sleeved black shirt. He had many more stylish and classy outfit options but he didn’t want to overdo anything. It was just a simple family lunch after all. With his coworker. His coworker who he admired. But he didn’t want it to seem like he was thinking of it as a date. He would not be caught like that for Robert Robertson the 3rd. No way in hell. He just ended up wearing the plain black t-shirt, fitted in all the right places and still showing much of his muscular physique. He couldn’t downplay himself too much for the dispatcher.

He sprayed one more spritz of fragrance against his shirt before deciding to put in his golden earrings and quickly brushing his hair so it didn’t seem too wavy. He picked up his phone again and saw Robert had responded.
“👍”
Of course he responds with a stupid thumbs up, Chad thought with a light scoff.
“I’ll be there in 20 minutes.” he replied back as he grabbed some secret socks and quickly tied up his shoes. Before leaving, he did a quick sweep of his apartment, making sure everything looked clean enough in case… No, he should stop thinking about that. Nevertheless, he made sure his bed was made perfectly and he put all the dirty dishes into his dishwasher to get clean. He let out a breath of air as he grabbed his car keys and his jacket on one of the clothes pegs by the door. He didn’t need a jacket at all, however, he looked fucking good in it so, flicked over his shoulder it went.

He locked up his apartment then headed down the stairs, trying to calm the spring in his step. He was acting like a giddy school girl right now. The Z-Team would be laughing their asses off right now if they saw him like this and he slowed down. He still remembered the address the team had sent to the group for Robert’s housewarming party and he quickly put it into his Maps app. He headed out the apartment block’s lobby and headed to his car. He chucked his jacket by the backseat and quickly sent his sister a message that he would be bringing over the “dog-friend” and would be there soon. He started his car and began to drive towards Robert’s apartment, fighting down the shred of excitement and nervousness that sparked in his chest.
This was going to be fine.
