Tommy never really had anyone experienced in magic to teach him. Elementary and middle schools don't teach magic either, especially since the students would be young and incapable of controlling their powers.
The only way Tommy practised his control with Air was by himself. No one in the neighbourhood shares the same ability, and even if they did, Tommy knows they wouldn't dare enter the house. The reason why…
At that moment, Clara's calm expression falls into uncertainty. "They uh… they also talk about your Dark Magic," she explains as she carefully eyes Tommy.

So what if Tommy was born with Dark Magic? He got accepted to the Academy anyways, so he's not complaining.
While he makes both friends and enemies, Tommy learns how to use his powers and basically tries to enjoy his life at the Academy.

Summary
The small town of Manberg isn't home to much; it's almost got nothing going on. As it goes, it makes the perfect place for a top tier vampire hunter academy in the whole nation. A place to hide low, train the future protectors of the nation. The royal, the elite, the best of the best - they all reside in Manberg.
Tommy's never amounted to anything in his life. He don't know nobody (besides Tubbo). He spends his days sneaking meals and naps in unpredictable times and working to save up for his dream - tuition to school, to become a hunter.
He's content with it. He's long grown accustomed to the hunger pains and the cold nipping away at his fingertips. The feeling of being watched hardly phased him anymore.
He was content with it.
Until winter came, and everything promptly went to shit.

But Wilbur is a ball and chain in the middle of the sea, slowly but steadily dragging himself down to the ocean floor with Tommy unknowingly trapped inside his cuff. It’s unfair that Tommy has had to drown with Wilbur for so many years, desperately trying to swim both of them back to the surface. It’s fruitless, and Tommy wonders sometimes if it would be better to just cut the chain that binds them together. To let Wilbur sink on his own, while Tommy heads for air.
He could never do that though; as much as he wants to. He’ll let Wilbur sink them both, and Tommy will swim and thrash as the surface grows more and more distant. Hoping and wishing for a lifeboat. For someone to help them to shore, and to pull Tommy’s freezing body into their warm, loving arms and drape a towel over his wet shoulders.
He thinks Phil might be that person, Techno too. Tommy wants to let them be and he wishes for Wilbur to want that too.
OR: Wilbur and Tommy are brothers in the foster system. Wilbur is struggling with addiction, Tommy is always left to pick up the pieces. But now with Techno and Phil here, hopefully they’ll be able to help. (Only Wilbur does not want help.)

Summary
Tommy seems pale and drawn, like a person stepping up to the gallows, as he enters the booth to sing. His hands don’t shake, but it feels disingenuous of Wilbur to look at that as a ray of light in everything. The group of them watch from behind the one way glass as Tommy steps up to the microphone. His eyes fall closed and they don’t open back up.
When he sings, it’s such a wail of pain that Wilbur’s sure by the end that Tommy will drop to his knees and heave.
He doesn’t. Almost by miracle, Tommy’s standing when he's finished, and with a creased, ruined expression and a torn heart, he steps back from the mic and walks out like it was nothing.
There’s silence, then –
“Holy shit,” Schlatt says, and yeah. That just about sums it all up.
Or, Tommy is a young pop artist going on tour - he holds auditions for his touring band and ends up getting not just a band, but a family. It's just -- he doesn't seem to know that. (based around Olivia Rodrigo's album Sour)

There was screaming coming from the basement again. Blood curdling, horror-like wails of despair that could only come from a person facing their violent death.
Tommy sighed. Was it too much to ask for them to be quiet, for once? It was always something with murder victims- wails, or groans, or moans, or pleads, they never did shut the fuck up. Tommy had half a mind to kill them himself to make them get quiet, but thankfully Techno did that job for him. And they were dead-quiet (Ha.) when Tommy had to deal with them.
Who even was this guy? Well, not like it mattered much. He would be dead soon anyway.

He tugs gently, frowning again, and glancing around the ruins-turned-garden he found Tommy in. “Alright, you’re gonna make yourself sick, come on, I’ll get you wherever you were going.”
