Disability Portrayal Examples
(Bookmarks list is more complete than the works list.)
These fics do better than average at avoiding common pitfalls and stereotypes, fanon clichés, histrionics, one-dimensionality, etc., when it comes to portrayal of disability and disabled characters.
This collection is inclusive of characters who are Deaf/deaf/hard of hearing, autistic or otherwise neurodivergent, chronically ill, or have other sensory, physical, cognitive, or mental health impairments, and so on.
This will be hodgepodge of fandoms and character relationships and gen, because those things are not part of the criteria for this collection. Among other things, there will likely be several examples from Marvel, because it's in plentiful supply and has many characters with canon disabilities.
Works in this disability portrayal collection may or may not have a disabled author. If the author indicated that information, I have tagged it in the bookmark.

Even better: parent A deceased, parent B incarcerated.
Bouncing from home to home has been the defining factor of Tony’s life for the last four years. The future will undoubtedly be a cycle of lather, rinse, repeat, until the day he gets dumped on the street at 18, no longer anyone’s problem except his own. He’s long since accepted this reality.
When his social worker drops him off at the doorstep of the Barnes-Rogers household, she seems to think this time will be different. Tony’s not convinced.
Or: A boy is welcomed into the home of his new foster parents and their children. A boy learns to trust and love.
