His pupils dilated, and his senses stretched out to where Kate was, even as it looked like he was fully concentrating on the continuing fight. It was the tracksuit mafia, again. Or at least what was left of them. It had been a few weeks since the fight on the ice rink and they’d started recuperating themselves. Still though, he didn’t unleash his full strength on these mooks, it wasn’t like they were the supervillains of their time. They were just cannon fodder. Enemies he did not really have to worry about when they were in a volume of five or less. Maybe if there were one hundred of them he’d unleash his powers, like he did at the rink.

Yelena’s jaw clenches— she opens her mouth to reply, then hesitates. Kate quirks a brow, arms crossed over her chest waiting.
Yelena turns away from her and responds quietly, “800,000.”
Kate’s eyes widen— but before she could say anything more, Yelena turned back to her. “I am sorry, Kate Bishop.”
Kate shakes her head— her heart pounding in her chest as she manages to ask, “Did you get hired to kill me as well?”
Yelena nodded her head, closing her eyes as she nodded. “My employer called me after the footage was released. She gave me the intel and the money worth but…”
“But what?”
“I refused the job.” Yelena locks eyes with Kate once more. “We compromised and finally came to an agreement. My new assignment was to protect you rather than kill you.”
“Yelena…” Kate breathed shakily.
