Summary
The Hour of Joy had been compromised, higher-ups within the company discovering the plot before they went forward with the "Sleeping Guardian Initiative." Several toys were imprisoned for collaborating, some for weeks and some for years, undergoing a "rehabilitation" program to reintroduce them back to the factory.
CatNap was gone for three years, the world seemingly having moved on without him, but a distant memory of the past.
It's only at the start of a new period for the company, what some staff are calling the "Utopia Initiative", that CatNap is released back into the factory. After his release, it is up to DogDay, leader of the Smiling Critters, to teach his best friend how to properly fulfill his role by the month's end, or else there will be dire consequences, all the while a mystery begins to unravel beneath him, threatening to destroy everything the dog had ever held dear.

Summary
CatNap’s friends all disappeared without a trace. He keeps on looking for answers on their whereabouts, but it all leads to nowhere. Occasionally, CatNap thinks that he hears their voices, it’s all in his head. Fifteen years after their disappearance, CatNap swears that he can hear their voices more clearly.
After DogDay’s death in the factory, he returns to the cartoon world and sees all of his friends but a certain purple cat is missing. Good riddance.
(In this au, all of the critters minus CatNap are forced to go into the factory. They come back 15 years later to find a difference in their cartoon world. the cartoon version of the Smiling Critters are AI programs for the bigger bodies project. They get mixed in with the souls but get separated once they die, meaning that the Smiling Critters go back to their world with the memories of the real world while the souls just disappear.)
