Packs were common. In fact they were encouraged in the navy. If you had a pack then there was no need to worry about the fallout. The higher ups could always ship you off back home to your mates and never think twice about you.
It was well understood that all alpha’s and beta’s were essential to the military. So when you break or die they forget about you and bring more of you in. It was also an unspoken rule that omega’s were essentially forced from the navy once they were bound to a pack, they were the "lifeblood" of the military. They gave birth and raised the new generation while caring for their retired veterans. This however is not what happened to one Pete “Maverick” Mitchell.
This is a retelling of Top Gun and Top Gun: Maverick within an a/b/o universe. I’m also planning on making two alternative endings for this story.

HYDRA was weaponizing his helicarriers and Tony was pissed. He had already wiped out the Ten Rings. You would really think other terrorist groups would take note and not mess with his stuff; it was just self preservation at this point. Thank god Fury had had some sense to involve him, the very person that created the helicarriers, and could ground them before they even left the ground. The alternative, sending Captain America, the Black Widow, and a random member of the Air Force against the full force of Hydra, was not pleasant to consider.
In a world where Tony Stark is involved in the first fight against HYDRA, he goes head to head with the Winter Soldier and is surprised to learn his identity. Tony tries to deescalate the fight and brings up Howard Stark’s friendship with Bucky Barnes. He is shocked by the revelation that the Winter Soldier killed him. The Soldier escapes the fight against Iron Man but can’t stop thinking about the encounter, especially because the man inside the suit, Tony Stark, has extensive surveillance out to find him. Wanting to learn more about the man pursuing him, the Soldier starts to surveil him back.

Summary
After one too many relapses and wipes in the early 1950’s, Zola develops Project Wings in hopes of forever subduing Winter Soldier’s original personality and memories using very specific conditioning methods. Ten years later the Winter Soldier is the most efficient weapon Hydra owns and Project Wings is declared a success, its files archived away, forgotten.
Until decades later when Hydra makes the ultimate mistake - orders the Winter Soldier to kill Captain America, which unbeknownst to them triggers Project Wings’s protocols. Now, they have a rogue Asset on the loose and its newest mission is to execute some major Hydra ass-whooping.
And the fact the Asset chooses Tony Stark as his new Handler doesn’t help Hydra’s dilemma one bit.
OR
Bucky embarks on a Hydra killing spree in order to regain his lost memories. The Soldier is excited to have a new mission. And Tony Stark has no idea why is a Hydra assassin casually walking into his workshop asking for orders this early in the morning.
