More or Less... Diff-abilities
Fics where one or more characters has a disability or difference, whether physical or mental/neurological (sometimes even fantastical!).
A mix of non-canon disabilities (either lifelong or acquired), with varying levels of canon-compliance (e.g. neurodivergent interpretations of a character, vs amputation, etc)
& fics focusing/expanding on a Canon disability or difference (e.g. Hawkeye's deafness, Daredevil's blindness, Tim Drake's missing spleen, DiNozzo's plague lungs, etc).

Summary
Tim often experiences ‘silent’ migraines where he loses vision in his right eye. He has never felt the need to bring it up to the Bats, partially out of fear that they would permanently bench him if they found out. Besides- he manages just fine. Until one day one of his brothers notices he can’t actually see.

Summary
Jason has put his life back together just in time to see the whole world fall apart. As the pandemic spreads across Gotham, he's struggling to maintain his new and fragile equilibrium in the face of two separate pressure points:
One, he's back working in Bruce's restaurant while his own joint's launch seems to be dying before it can even get off the ground, frustrated and beset by relationships still fraught with trauma. And two, he's walked back into a Gotham he can barely recognize, with people locked down in their homes, the streets paved with fear of a choking, ugly, infectious death, and an attack on Alfred that he can't avenge.
With the high stress, high stakes world of haute cuisine combined with the Wayne family drama in daylight and pounding empty streets feeling like an idiot in armor watching people die at night, it's only a matter of time before he cracks for good.
Then, suddenly, he gets a reprieve.
One night a vigilante food truck rolls up to his corner of the world, offering Red Hood a shot at redemption.
And during the day, there's the Table's new pot scrubber, Tim Drake, who might need some redemption of his own...

Summary
“Jaybird!” Dick yells as soon as he pulls the double doors open, and Jason can see the trail of little ducklings behind him.
Duke, Steph, Cass, and Tim are in a neat line behind Dick, and they all look miserable. They’re all wearing pajamas, each with their own tissue box. Damian is standing apart from them with his arms crossed, and Alfred The Cat is perched precariously on his shoulder, but the illusion of an upset healthy prepubescent teenager is very obviously ruined by a very red nose, and the pale pallor of his normally deep tan.
Dick is the only one who doesn’t look miserable, and Jason laments his own health and simultaneously curses Dick’s extremely abysmal culinary abilities and prowess.
Jason has no words. He wants to step back, away from the sick children. He wants to go back to his germ-free apartment and watch the newest episode of Great British Bake Off with Roy.
He takes a step back.

Or, wherein Tim got his spleen taken by Ra's like in canon but little does everyone know that Jason had sold his spleen when he was a kid to try and get Catherine into rehab (and she still died of a drug overdose.)

Summary
As Jason laid in the wreckage of an explosion of his own making with a bleeding neck —he never expected the batarang slicing his throat wide open— and broken body, remembering how Bruce chose the Joker over him, he just wanted to laugh at himself.
Because how could he ever expect anything different?
Nobody cared about Jason Todd. He was just a Crime Alley fuck up. He wasn’t worth a damn. He wasn’t worth anything. He should’ve known better. He did know better. He just… wished that someone would pick him for once.
.
When Bruce cut Jason’s throat with a batarang to stop him from killing the Joker, it damaged his vocal chords so badly that he could no longer talk. But Jason didn’t care anymore. He’s finally realized that no one wants to listen to what a dead man has to say.

Summary
Therein lies the crux of the Buck problem. Eddie’s in love with Buck, he knows it and thinks he has subconsciously known it for a while now. And he thinks that Buck loves him, too, knows that if he didn’t, he wouldn’t be spending every night at Eddie’s home and caring for his son as if he was his own, wouldn’t offer to drive Eddie to and from physical therapy appointments without making it seem like a hassle. But Buck deserves someone who can give him everything he needs, who can have his back all the time, and Eddie knows that he can’t be that person right now.
Because Buck deserves to be completely enveloped in love and affection, and Eddie can’t physically give him that, his constantly aching and useless arm an ever-present reminder. All he has to give is a one-armed hug, a broken mug, and a heart that wants too much that he doesn’t deserve.
--
Or, when the bullet severs the nerves of his right arm, Eddie realizes the road to recovery doesn’t always have to be made of gravel.Bookmarked by Scribbled_Seconds
