“I think she broke my rib with that kick.” Lance coughs out. “Are you okay?” He asks Keith tiredly as he does a quick scan of his body.
“Galra are more resistant than Earthians, how are you feeling?” Keith asks as he supports Lance’s weight.
“Can you take me to the healing pod?” Lance asks with furrowed brows and a hand over his mouth. Keith nods and helps him out of the observation deck, glaring at Lotor on his way out.
“Is it too presumptuous of me to ask that our negotiations go on?” Lotor asks.

How Lance and Keith find the space to love each other amidst an intergalactic war where they're both key players.
A Voltron rewrite/fix-it focused on redeeming Lotor and developing Lance and Keith's relationship with the only major canonical difference being that Keith grew up with the Blade of Marmora.

Summary
After being seperated and captured during a Galran attack on a rebel base, team voltron and the crew of the Atlas had been on their last legs trying to bring him back. But the war doesn't stop for one person, even a paladin, and the attrocities of Honerva's new empire certainly doesn't. So when, sleep deprived and on their last legs, Voltron is called upon to stop a series of attacks from a new Robeast in the shape of a lion, it's hard not to take it personally.
Harder still, once Allura finds out who's inside.
They've failed Lance more than once, but they will not fail him again.

A botched mission with the Blade of Marmora ends with Keith missing, enslaved as a factory worker and breeder by an alien species that covets Galra Hybrids for this purpose exactly. The war carries on, with both the Blade of Marmora and Voltron presuming Keith to be dead; he's stuck - until he's unexpectedly rescued by none other than Prince Lotor.
But Lotor, proving to be a more hands-on Emperor than Zarkon, does not intend to take the war in the direction Voltron, or Keith, had expected. With Keith at Lotor's side, for better or for worse (and questioning his loyalties the entire way), the Universe may be in for a few unexpected twists and turns before all hands are played.

A few years after the war, it felt like half the planets in the Coalition had made their own versions of the Voltron story. Movies and television series and plays and musicals spring up in their footsteps, greeting Keith on almost every world he sets foot on.
Keith never paid attention to any of it, when he could help it. He smiles when the refugee children sing their favorite Voltron songs for him, and grits his teeth when world leaders quote his life story at him, and does his best to just ignore all of it. He saves lives these days, tens of thousands of them all over the galaxy, where five years after the war’s end there are still so many planets just barely beginning to stumble back onto their feet. The humanitarian work they do with the Marmora is more important than Keith’s ego - and anyway, as Hunk says when he’s in a dark mood, shutting up and smiling is hardly the worst thing the Council ever asked them to do.
All of this is to explain why he’s blindsided when Shiro's call comes.
