Summer always had a way of making things feel bigger. The heat pressed against my skin, the air thick with salt and something unspoken, like the whole world was on the edge of something waiting to happen.
Every summer before, I told myself it would be different. That I wouldn’t get caught up in the same mess. That Rafayel wouldn’t get under my skin, that Caleb wouldn’t look at me like I needed protecting, that Xavier wouldn’t make me question what I really wanted.
But here I was.
Back at Whitesand Bay. Back in a place that smelled like nostalgia and regret.
And there they were. Standing on the porch, watching me.But something was off.
Like something had shifted, and I wasn’t sure why.
I told myself I wouldn’t let it get to me.
But summer was never simple.
