Hao looks up from the entryway, and Hanbin can see his beautiful doe eyes are shiny with unshed tears. Hao presses his lips together in a firm, determined pout, shakes his head vehemently, and sits down with a delicate huff on the floor.
People assume that omegas are prone to hysterics over trivial things, but Hao is more hardworking and resilient than anyone Hanbin's ever met. Hanbin knows Hao wouldn't act like this about nothing, especially after being at the school. Usually he takes time to settle in at home before he'll let go of the pleasant, polite demeanour he paints on for his students, the faculty, the string ensemble he takes after class some days.
Heart in his throat, Hanbin hurries down the stairs, trying not to slip in his socks. “Hao,” he murmurs, crouching down by his mate’s side. God, his scent borders on acrid, overwhelming, floral notes shredded at the edges like they've been dragged by fingernails down a chalkboard. “What happened?”

He doesn't get the chance to until one day when they find a sick baby dragon in the forest. The only way to save the baby is to give it body heat, and Hao's body isn't warm enough, meaning Hanbin has to do it.
