After being together for a year, Togawa asks Nozue if he wants to move in together, but recieves an unexpectedly hesitant answer. It turns out Nozue is uncomfortable taking that step until they've officially revealed their relationship to the company; however, that means Nozue will be subjected to internal review, due to their past tenure as boss and subordinate, possibly losing him his job and social standing.
Never having been apart more than a few days in nine years of knowing each other, they find solace in new friendships. Through one such connection a part of Nozue's past is revealed, and it sheds light on why he so desperately needs their relationship to be legitimized before committing to cohabitation.

[There was] Nozue, sitting against the railing across from his apartment next to several plastic grocery bags. His disheveled appearance implied he had been there awhile.
“Nozue-san-” his sentence was interrupted by a raspy cough, and before he could catch his breath, he was gathered in the tightest hug of his life, right in his doorway. The arms around his back squeezed his waist so tightly that made him slightly queasy, but there was no way he was turning this down.
“You scared me,” Nozue shuddered through his words, “You didn't pick up, and you're sick...”
