Summary
Three shots ring out.
Steve hears them before he feels them; a warm, wet pain burning in his torso, intolerably excruciating.
There’s a bundle of squawks and screams, outbursts of panic and anger, and it’s only when Hopper falls forwards to take Steve up into a slightly rough, protective hold, does he realize that two of those shots have lodged themselves in his own flesh and bone. (Realizes that he’d moved, instinctively, to shield El, despite never having spoken to her, who’d the gun had been so precisely pointed at, aimed for.)
Steve Harrington watches his own blood pool and trickle over a series of hands pressed against him, small and large, soft and rugged, and for a moment, wants to stay like this. He can’t.

He knew every time Eddie appeared on his doorstep with no warning, small and trembling with a dirty, oversized backpack packed with snacks and worn stuffed animals. He knew when Eddie was taller, a little bit too skinny and too tough for his age, when his dad finally ended up in prison and the government finally let Wayne's kid be his kid. He knew when Eddie was in middle school, friendless and angry and paranoid, when Wayne stumbled upon a stash of porno mags while he was looking for drugs.
So he knows now.

Steve has never won a fight. He’s had his ass kicked left, right, and center. Hell, Johnathan has kicked his ass. Steve can bat a monster, but when it comes to people? Steve Harrington has never really won a fight.
But that’s because he’s getting put in the wrong kinds of fights. They think he’s a hammer, when really, anyone who grew up BFFs with Carol becomes a scalpel.
(Dustin gapes like a fish. “Holy shit, dude…” Steve would chide language if he thought it would do anything. “You just performed real life Vicious Mockery. I think that guy took psychic damage!”)

Been there when Tommy was sick with the flu, threw up a little too hard, and gave himself a nose bleed. And in turn…
Steve trusted Tommy still, despite it all.

“Hey!” Izuku calls, but the man doesn’t turn around. Annoyed, Izuku reaches the man, spinning him around by the shoulder. “What happened? Why aren't you with your team?” He asks, looking the man up and down. He seems fine. The man scowls in confusion, red eyes glaring.
“Hah? The fuck you talking about,” he says, using his height to lean over Izuku. But this is all a terrible mistake on his part. Izuku is in disaster management mode, and he will take no bullshit.
“Do not speak to me like that,” he says, voice deep and low. The man flinches back in shock, but Izuku is already moving on. “Management radioing, who’s in need of assistance? Over and out.”
If this man has time to come all the way to the front and be an ass, then he has the free time to help out with any team in need, Izuku angrily reasons.
Or, Izuku is a disaster management specialist and one day accidentally mistakes Pro-Hero Ground Zero for one of his team members, thus sparking their friendship.

“There was a fire. At the mall. I worked there? At Scoops Ahoy.”
The way he says the last part sounds strange, like it’s really important somehow that Eddie believes him.
“Okay,” he says, then adds, “Is that why you look like that?”
Eddie’s never met a fire with fists, but he wants Steve to tell him what happened—not just assume.
There’s a beat of silence, like Steve’s weighing his options, and Eddie knows a lie’s coming before Steve even opens his mouth.
“Yeah. Building caved in. We made it out—Robin and I. Paramedics checked me over and said I couldn’t drive, so I decided to walk.”
Almost ten miles, Eddie estimates. Sure. Totally normal thing to do in the middle of the night, battered and bruised, after escaping a fire.
But he’s pretty sure that’s all he’s going to get, so he settles on, “Good thing I came along, then.”
“Yeah.”

That he knows the loss is mixed up with hatred and relief, but is still pure in the way it pierces something fundamental inside of him, and he gets it. He just never tells anyone.
But then there is Eddie Munson, with a wickedness that feels wholesome and warm and slowly, Steve is starting to think he might want it. He just doesn’t think he can figure it out without first figuring out how to let go of Billy.

Written for this prompt where, still dealing with Phil's death and Loki's mindcontrol, Clint moves into the tower and,
the Avengers come across a series of odd or surprising behaviours. He is perfectly pleasant and fairly normal (for a world class assassin...) for the most part, so none of these oddities are concerning on their own, but slowly lead to the Avengers realising that while Clint basically worshipped the man, Coulson was quite emotionally abusive.
