He’ll tell himself later that he was distracted by the muggle and that was why they got the better of him. He didn’t even hear the pops of apparition. He was hit with a curse before he even turned around screams and pounding of feet the world around him going black.

“Don’t move!” Lily shouted, even as her outline blurred in the glow.
Regulus tried to wrench himself free, but the magic caught him fast, pulling him upright. His glare shot toward James through the searing light. “This is your fault—”
And then the glow swallowed them whole.
The dormitory vanished.
