Sloane had volunteered for Archives duty to feel closer to Liam, definitely not to keep encountering Dain Aetos at the crack of dawn.
And she doesn't agree to help him look for answers about his mother because she cares about him. She doesn't agree at all, really. She just keeps finding herself next to him on the Archives floor - at least an arm's length away, of course. It's not him - it's just that if there's one thing she's an expert in, it's loss, and she wants to believe it's possible for something to be found.

If you haven't read Fourth Wing and Iron Flame yet, then I would recommend skipping this fanfic as it contains SPOILERS.
Imogen Cardulo's life doesn't begin with her breaking Violet Sorrengail's arm on Assessment Day and there is much more going on with her than what Violet sees. She is more than a side character this time around.
Once upon a time, because that is how all stories begin, she was just another teenage girl - a little rebellious, a little more reckless than her parents would have preferred, a typically annoying little sister... an awesome friend or a pain in the ass (depending on the day and which one of her friends you asked) and she had a not so little or subtle crush on Garrick Tavis, but who can blame her for that?
Then all the adults in her life went to war and the course of her life changed drastically.

Together with her two friends Axel and Loraine, she uses all her time helping her first year section members become stronger, making sure they would get through the Gauntlet and Threshing. It takes up so much of her time that she has to sneak out of the school after curfew to practice with her dragon, something she could risk expulsion for or even worse, suspicion of treason.
Then one night wingleader Brennan Sorrengail catches her on the courtyard, immediately intruiged with her strange excuse and behaviour. She manages to get away that night, but not for long, as he now has leverage over her, leverage that could cost her a chance of becoming a graduated rider.

Thank you Rebecca Yarros for creating this wonderful world for us to play. Written prior to release of ONYX STORM, one commenter calls this a kinder/gentler version of the six months after the Battle of Basgiath, 80% Violet's POV, 20% Xaden's.
Scope:
Book 3, Part I, 9 chapters. Resolves X's problem and introduces his mom (VERY different from ONYX STORM).
Book 3, Part II, 10 chapters. resolves V's second signet, her size/joints (VERY different), her parents' work. Introduces better venin defenses, much more central role for dragons, tensions w/in Empyrean. Sets up Revolution's new relationship with Navarre & scribes.
Book 3, Part III. If commenters express interest, could be written to establish new relationship between Revolution/Poromiel & heat up venin war
Does not address: Changes in Andarna, feather tails, offensive weapons.
Style: Consistent with history/timelines/geography/characters established in first two books. Few battles or fights, no steamy sex, lots of romance, mental rather than combat challenges. The plot is the thing.
