Unbidden, Jiang Cheng felt a shy smile creep over his face, and his heart swelled with gratitude for Zewu-Jun’s unexpected support. It was true, he did need every spare moment, because he knew that his mother would accept nothing less than perfect scores, perfect attendance, perfect everything from him, even though he always struggled with his lessons and Wei Wuxian breezed through. He bowed again, thanked the First Jade politely, and followed as he glided away towards an unknown part of the Cloud Recesses.
Walking one step behind Zewu-Jun, as was proper, meant that Jiang Cheng missed the man’s small, private smile.

Summary
Jiang Cheng is hit with a curse whose only cure is to be loved back by the one he loves. If he doesn't have his feelings reciprocated, the curse will slowly suck them painfully out of Jiang Cheng until he completely forgets who he loved.
Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji can't let him suffer like this.

Jiang Cheng huffs an annoyed breath. “You told me to be discreet, travel as a normal person. So Sandu’s at home. And I didn’t bring a qiankun bag or anything like that because…well, I didn’t want to be tracked, if anyone could sense it.”
He’d traded his silks for wool, dressed his hair in a simple topknot, packed a bag, and gone. At the very first indication from Wei Wuxian that he was wanted.
Pathetic.
Still, it's been a long time since he’s been able to navigate the world without being Sect Leader Jiang, without being a well-known cultivator. It's kind of refreshing. He can kind of—if he squints—see the appeal, understand why Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji dropped out of the cultivation world, and are hiding away in this cabin in the woods.
