Three shots ring out.
Steve hears them before he feels them; a warm, wet pain burning in his torso, intolerably excruciating.
There’s a bundle of squawks and screams, outbursts of panic and anger, and it’s only when Hopper falls forwards to take Steve up into a slightly rough, protective hold, does he realize that two of those shots have lodged themselves in his own flesh and bone. (Realizes that he’d moved, instinctively, to shield El, despite never having spoken to her, who’d the gun had been so precisely pointed at, aimed for.)
Steve Harrington watches his own blood pool and trickle over a series of hands pressed against him, small and large, soft and rugged, and for a moment, wants to stay like this. He can’t.

Things have been tense between them. All of them, to be more exact. Cole being the epicentre of the tension, to be completely exact.
And so it was decided: a trip. More specifically a ski, early-Christmas slash surprise birthday trip. All the way up in the Wailing Alps as normal people who didn't have to carry the weight of the entire world on their backs, driving regular old cars the Kai way - sans handy technology.
Now if only they could get there. Alive. Considering Cole was in a perpetual bad mood (amplified by all the decisions the team made to disconnect them from heroic lives, which included estimated two days of driving thanks to his new favourite navigation) and Kai was determined to break through it with a lot of burnt CDs.It's a pain in the heart

Jay nods in soft, aching, understanding. "I get it." He whispers, carefully trying to trace Cole's face with his eyes, trying to hold onto a specific detail before it slips through his fingers, before it loses it's form.
"I know you do."

What he was not expecting, was for the music to blow up, leaving him internet famous, and his feelings out in the open.

It was meant to be a normal patrol for Jon, flying through the streets of Metropolis, saving cats from trees, helping people cross streets and stopping small bank robberies, the simple superboy stuff.
And though some patrols can include a weekly fight with Lex Luthor regarding ‘death to all Kryptonian’s’ or even the rare world domination plan from Starro, Jon would take the two villains in regard to witnessing this.
God, how he would give anything to never witness this.
Let alone be the cause of it.

“Oh, are you guys talking about Jason?” said a familiar mechanized voice from across the rooftop, and the Bats spun around to spot the Red Hood casually leaning against the rooftop access door. “I miss that kid, he was a riot. Hope he’s doing alright.”
There was a moment of silence as the entire group stared at Red Hood, processing his words, and then Red Robin blurted, “Wait, you know Jason?”
“Sure,” Red Hood responded breezily, amusement written in the lines of his posture. “We got pushed into the Pit at the same time. He went a little crazy and fell off a cliff, but shit could only go up from there, am I right?”
The Bats find out that Jason Todd is alive and apparently has questionable taste in friends, if the Red Hood is any indication.

The Ninja have defeated Ras and his army, reunited with Jay and P.I.X.A.L, and saved Kai and Bonzle from Nether-space. Things have been quiet for a few months now that there's no real threat. However, things weren't all good for Kai. Now that Cole and the Finders have moved into the Monastery, he's forced to witness Cole and Geo's relationship up close and personal, which makes him sick to his stomach. Now Kai will have to learn to deal with his feelings for his friend and figure out how to mend his broken heart.

Summary
Cole is the Earthen Ninja, the dependable backbone of the team who's already to help his friends, and most of all his boyfriend, Kai. Whether in combat or in day-to-day situations, he's got everybody's back. The foundation of the team has not faltered thus far, but this helpful nature leads to his downfall when while trying to evacuate civilians from the dark miasma-overrun Ninjago City, he waits too long for others, and falls deep into the city.
The other ninja are devastated--the oni were going to be hard to defeat before, but without one of their strongest members, could they even do it anymore? Everything is moving too fast, and they barely have time to mourn before the battle ensues. However, through what seems to be a miracle, they succeed in defeating the oni. Returning to Ninjago City the following day to hold a funeral for Cole they find him--but he's no longer human. In some part, he has become one of them. Cole has become part oni. And he is just as horrified as them.

Summary
The first time Cole saw himself in the mirror, he almost didn’t recognize his reflection. Green mist where his face was supposed to be, his skin see-through like a dusty window, even his black gi tainted in an otherworldly glow. He looked in the mirror, and a ghost stared back.
But in the end, his sacrifice was worth it – they defeated the Preeminent, they exiled the (other) ghosts from Ninjago, and most important of them all, Lloyd was safely back with the team. And with no imminent threat on the horizon, maybe it was time he began his journey to self-acceptance.
Being a ghost should come with some benefits, after all. Even if sometimes the cons seem to outweigh the pros.
Even if it feels harder and harder to hold onto his humanity with each passing day.
Even if the others seem to be forgetting about him a lot more frequently recently.
