Summary
What if, instead of just glimpsing gold at their performance of “How It’s Done”, they turned the entire Honmoon gold. They did jump out of a plane without parachutes after all, it's hard to beat that.
Unfortunately, the golden Honmoon did NOT rid Rumi of her patterns.
Now Rumi has a few things on her checklist.
One: Confront Celine. The patterns aren't gone like she said they would be.
Two: Tell her girls. Now that her only hope of getting rid of her patterns has been dashed, they need to know. If these marks are permanent, she can't hide them from Mira and Zoey forever.
Three: Tell Bobby, hopefully with help from her girls. If the patterns keep spreading like they have her whole life, eventually clothing isn't going to be able to hide them. Bobby is the only one she can trust to help her do damage control.
As usual, things never go to plan.

"You're so beautiful." Zoey whispers, the compliment sinks into every fiber of Rumi's being. It's a warm fuzzy feeling at first and then it turns sour. Rumi's eyes scatter away as she tries to redirect the thoughts that tell her she is anything but beautiful. She could never be beautiful with the patterns that scar her skin."I'm not." Falls from her lips before she can stop it. Without missing a beat Zoey cups each side of Rumi's face urging her to look at her. Rumi keeps her gaze averted, too embarrassed to look at her partner.
"You are." Zoey means every syllable as her thumbs stroke Rumi's cheek.

“It’s unfortunate that Bruno’s insidious ways have infected this family, even now. But, Mirabel, we know that you can prove to us that it hasn’t reached you. That you can prove to us that you are in this family.” She lifts her hand to caress Mirabel’s cheek and roots her to the ground as irritation rumbles within her.
What has she been doing all this time? Besides trying to prove time and time again that she is in this family? That she cares about them?
Her chest burns from frustration. Her whole body feels ignite with rage and she’s almost surprised that Abuela can’t literally feel the heat from her palm on her cheek. She hears Bruno’s words echo around in her head again, I love our family, but it’s a lot to be in it, and feels their weight even stronger now, but she takes a deep breath.
She knows she would never do anything to hurt this family. If this is the proof they need, that she stop the prophecy from coming true, then she’ll give it to them.
“I will, Abuela.” She declares. “I’ll show you. I’ll show everyone.” Her eyes stare directly into Abuela’s, a challenge issued.
