Summary
The Empty has taken Castiel, and Dean's grief is overwhelming, so he decides to take on the Mark of Cain again and become a Knight of Hell, believing that will make it so he won't care that Cas is gone from him forever.
But there's a hitch: Once Dean becomes a demon, Cas returns, and the demon cure doesn't work on Dean. So what's an angel to do when the love of his life is slowly turning evil in front of his very eyes?

Post-Canon Fix-It! This is a canon-divergence AU, where Dean actually properly mourns for Castiel, has legitimate grief over losing his best friend, and finally looks deep enough inside himself to realize he had loved Castiel all along. Basically everything after S15E18 didn't happen. There's a REASON they titled that episode 'Despair', and Dean really gets to understand what that truly means in this story.
