Summary
When Sapnap first moved in, Dream thought they were going to feel a little off at the beginning. And although they always got along well, it was normal to need time to get used to something so new. Going from knowing someone online to then living together and seeing them every day in person requires relearning how to interact with them once again, it almost feels like meeting someone new, which can be challenging. Still, contrary to all of his assumptions and expectations, they both hit it off from the beginning, with no awkwardness, no unease feeling of living with someone new, no shyness, nothing. It felt like they were always like that, sharing a house since childhood.
And maybe Dream was being too much a romantic, always honest with his feelings and jumping headfirst into things, but maybe this was how they were supposed to be, side by side repeating this familiar pattern, whether it was being friends, partners, or whatever, but forever being each others.Or,
Dream starts having intrusive thoughts about his childhood best friend, making him question his feelings and their entire friendship.

You don’t even feel the need to apologize to Dennis until you start to realize how good he is. Like, good at heart. There’s nothing performative. He’s just a sweet boy. And you’re you, which never made you feel as bad as it does now that you’re surrounded by good people all day long. He’s the worst of them all, though. So fucking sweet, so considerate. He knows you hate the apologies, and he stops. He knows you hate the upstairs neighbors, and he says something to them to make them quiet down. He knows you hate talking about Langdon, and he gives you an out every time the man comes up.
Trinity probably should have known that Huckleberry was going to be trouble when she persuaded him to come live with her. She couldn't have known that he would become so important to her. (Seriously, this is the guy who killed a patient on his first day! What was she thinking?)

Summary
Wordlessly, Dennis opens his arms to her. She falls forward, leaving her forehead to rest against his shoulder. They don’t hug. They never really do. But for them, this is enough: Trinity’s breathing evening out as the silence stretches out between them, Dennis looping one arm around her shoulders and patting her head gently. It’s a comfortable dance they do around their pasts, of memories they’d prefer to only allude to. Dennis thinks of it less of avoidance, but more of leaving things in the past in favour of making brighter futures, of living days that aren’t entwined with the existences of their ghosts. Maybe one of his brothers would call him unrealistic. Maybe they’d say that all roads eventually lead back to Broken Bow. Dennis has dreams of being a dreamer, though.
Dennis comes back from a night shift to find Trinity crying in her room. He's still not entirely sure on how to approach the whole comforting people when they're crying thing, but he'd like to think that he's doing the best he can.
