Chris smiles up at him like it’s any other day, like Buck didn’t almost kill him less than twenty-four hours ago. “Are you staying for breakfast?”
“Buck’s staying the whole day,” Eddie announces before he can answer.
“You are?” Chris asks at the same time Buck says, “I am?”
“Yep,” Eddie says with a finality to it that Buck is hopeless to argue over.
“Cool!” Christopher grins.
“Cool,” Buck echoes with a forced, strained smile. He’d rather be alone and hiding under the covers right now, throwing himself another pity party.

Summary
David ran to the edge of the ship, which, to his horror, had already begun sailing away from the dock. He grabbed Les’ hand, forcing him to get closer to him.
“You’re pirates!” He shouted, taking out the dagger his father had given him before they’d left. He hadn’t planned on using it, even in the alleyway, but these were pirates he was dealing with. He held the dagger out in front of him, glaring at their captain. Jack looked like he was trying not to laugh at him. He slowly stepped up to David, taking the dagger from him.
“We ain’t plannin’ on hurtin’ you’s. Calm down with the knife,” He said, putting the dagger back in David’s bag.
“You kidnapped us!” He said, taking a step back, hitting his back against the rails of the ship. He quickly looked behind him to see the dock getting smaller and smaller as the boat sailed away.

David Jacobs and his brother Les were given one job; get work at the docks until your father is better. What they were not supposed to do was get caught in the middle of a pirate raid and swept up onto their ship. David gets caught up in the middle of a situation far bigger than he initially realized.
