    Summary

Bard is his father's son, even if his father denied him sonhood to his dying breath. Thranduil forsook the idea of family when he was caught protesting against his own parents' corporation and kicked to the curb. Their first meeting in 1999 sets their lives on a course that'll change the world, even if the world's just an old yellow house, a pat of butter, or a rocking chair that keeps on singing.

There is a tin of letters tucked into his chest pocket, his heart aches for home, and all that is getting Bard through the stinking mess that is this war is the thought of his children laughing and happy, picking flowers in Thranduil's gardens.

    Summary

"Undines are creatures of the fresh water,” she said, in the end. “Guardians of springs, and streams, and all that they feed in turn. They are fair, and strong, immortal and invulnerable to all which might hurt us, but they are born longing for just one thing, one thing that they may never find alone – which is a shame, for they are destined to be alone, unless they can find someone who can love them despite their strangeness."

In which Bard finds a creature in the forest in the dead of winter, and both of them learn to let go of their fears.

'It is Bard who comes to him, three days into the mammoth task that is cleaning up Dale, restoring buildings, rehousing citizens, and tells him what they’re saying. “I thought you ought to hear it, rather than overhear it,” he says, less overawed and stunned, now, just mildly respectful: a friend, if Thranduil can be permitted to take that liberty.'

Word of Thranduil's dragonfire wound spreads throughout the region, compelling him to open his heart to Bard. Together, they learn and relearn how to be Kings.

    Summary

“You see so clearly through the hearts of dwarves?” Bard sets aside the goblet. He can’t remember when he last ate and he can feel the wine singing through his veins, warm and seductive.

“And the hearts of men.” Thranduil’s voice is soft as silk, low and lilting.

A compilation of the Barduil drabbles I'm writing daily for January. Warnings are included in the headnotes for individual chapters where they're required. :) Some canon-compliant, some AU, a variety of genres and ratings.
