With some of them she didn’t even know if they were asleep or dead. Rats would be a good word to describe them in Caitlyn's head. Dirty little animals sleeping in the filth that crawled out of holes to work and die. However the nation needed them, so Caitlyn had no choice but to see them scurrying around.
Slowing her horse to a trot she entered the city square seeing the charred remains still chained to a metal pole, a pile of ash beneath it. The whole thing was a much more ghastly scene than what she had expected. The former governor's family lay nearby all having been stabbed in the heart with a stake, their bodies unceremoniously dumped into a disrespectful pile.
