Summary
The three teenagers sit huddled to the back of the interrogation room, each tucked under their own shock blankets in varying stages of comfort. Only Peter looks up at the door’s rusty groaning. His arm is in a sling.
“Hey, yous,” Ted steps through the threshold. “So, hey, when I said I could come pick you up for whatever, whenever, if you’d just dared to live a little, I didn’t mean at the ass crack of dawn on a goddamn Wednesday while I’m hungover, Petey.”
“What the fuck did you just say?” Officer Bailey interrupts.
“Oh, nothing, sir, all classy law-abiding topics of conversation here,” Ted says. “Hey, Petey, at least tell me you’re wasted off your ass and that this was all worth it.”
“I’m not,” Peter says, voice hoarse.
“Fucking useless.”

Summary
What were the stages of grief again?
Denial, Jax remembers. He knows that one. It’s the first on the list, the one that clues people in that it’s developing grief in the first place. Not that he’s grieving. That was silly. And a straight up delusional take on his situation. He doesn’t grieve.
Cartoonish purple rabbits don’t grieve.
The dead can’t speak, the guilty don’t deserve to. Pomni has Thoughts™ and makes it Jax’s whole problem.
(Or: the one where she gives one last push.)

Summary
The cold metal of the gun barrel presses harder into the spot between his eyes.
“Witnesses aren’t a luxury I can afford, O.X.E,” The Widow muses in fluent English, velvety as a cobra’s dance, strike imminent— she squeezes her thighs iron-tight around his windpipe, heels locked together, the hand clawed in his hair yanking it back, making sure it tilts far back enough for him to get a good, hard look at his executioner. She cocks her head. “So, why do you keep testing me?”
There’s a multitude of reasons for tracking down a target— suspicious activity, a reason for intervention, a tip-off, a shadow-op, a direct order— All of these are realistic players in this messed up game of chess; this deck of cards he’d been saddled with by his circumstances and all the powers that be, the people who insist he does good so much, he becomes it.
This particular assassin, however?
“Morbid curiosity,” Bob answers.
The gun fires.
Best to get it inside your head now, Mr. Reynolds. There’s nothing more disarming than a person you would die for.

Summary
Yelena Belova stares up at the plaque– the Battle of New York Memorial, listing the names of those who first assembled in midtown Manhattan. All names she’d gotten familiar with those first few months after destroying the Red Room; those first months where her only focus had been free will, character agency, and the Widows, when it should've been– it should’ve been– family.
Natasha Romanoff’s name blends in unassumingly within the roster of men– the fifth out of six– as if determined to lay low undercover even in death.
Death. Natasha Romanoff was dead.
A week after half the universe's population returns, Yelena visits Trinity Church Cemetery. There, within the darkness, a light in the form of an equally broken man guides her way through the sorrow.

Summary
A shadow moves through his blurry vision. It stops at the foot of his bed.
“Hi, Bob.” Yelena plops down on his comforter by his feet, afflicted. “So, quick question. How would you feel about sneaking out in the middle of the night to do things I cannot disclose but will go and do anyway, and also would you still like me if I was a worm?”
The stream of words slip in one ear and exit out the other, barely registering as he flutters his eyes, trying to keep up. He does, however, retain enough that his sleep-addled brain manages to provide one simple thought.
Oh. This is what having a best friend is like.
And then, out of nowhere, two other, more worrying simultaneous thoughts:
‘Why a worm of all things?’ and ‘I’m ruining this friendship immediately.’
Or: RIP Bob Reynolds, Studio Killers sang it better.

Summary
The knock came.
He knew who it was before he even looked.“Sooo... you alone?”
The smile twitched. The visitor's expression changed. It was slight, not a smile, not a frown, just a sharpness in the eyes, like something had shifted gears beneath his skin.
“Using my words against myself now? That's endearing.” The pale man simper.

Summary
Love is not the dying moan of a distant violin—it's the triumphant twang of a bedspring.
I didn’t open the door.
That’s the first thing people get wrong about me—I don’t rush. I listen. So when the knock came, thin and polite, like it had practiced in the mirror. I stayed where I was and leaned into the peephole.
The glass warped him.
Tall thing. Pale like milk left out too long. His shape didn’t sit right in the frame—too much shoulder, not enough certainty. Like he’d been poured into a man and forgot to level himself. Fortunately, I was pretty eager for a tall glass of milk.

“Dynamight-san,” Izuku says slowly, "I uh, didn't call anyone in."
"Yeah. I noticed."
