She was sitting at the top of a crag the first time Maedhros saw her. A small figure huddled up in a ball, unobtrusive except for the fact that she shouldn’t have been there.
A thrall, perhaps, sent from Morgoth to lure them out from the safety of Amon Ereb’s walls. Or perhaps not. The crags were exposed, and Maedhros could see no signs of a waiting ambush.A bit of a diversion from the classic "modern girl in middle earth" fic, in which our character is neither a girl nor attracted to any of the characters. An exploration of identity, purpose, and belonging in a world that discourages it.

Summary
When the Fellowship failed and the Ring was taken, Erestor did not expect to make his last stand in the valley of Imladris against a balrog of legend. He did not expect to face the horrors of the First Age while fighting side by side with his friends and the ones he considered family. And when he fell to that same balrog Erestor did not expect to wake up in a place that was impossible, in a time that was impossible, and find that the world as he knew it was completely flipped in this new reality he found himself in.
But when Erestor found a young Elrond and a young Elros in a keep swarming with elves of legend, Erestor knew that there would be no power on Arda or beyond that would be able to tear him away from those children now. Erestor was going to keep what was left of his family safe, no matter what it took. Little did Erestor know that he has not come back alone and that the oath he swore to keep the children safe would change the course of the world he now found himself in forever.

“Great, you’re in,” the Jedi says. “Welcome to the Jedi Temple on Coruscant, Mrs. Lars. Your quarters and uniform will be assigned to you shortly. Padawan Skeft will be here to escort you, please wait on the other side of this door.”
Shmi stands and nearly tumbles over herself.
“That’s it?” She asks, straightening her dress and bag.
The Jedi sniffs.
“That’s it,” they says. “You can—“
“I thought it would be more difficult to persuade you,” Shmi says.
“Ma’am,” the Jedi sighs, “We are an equal opportunity employer. Through the door, please.”(Shmi Skywalker is assaulted by too-real visions of her grandson in pain in the future. She gets a job at the Jedi Temple in order to prevent that from happening and soon after finds herself on a warship.)
