He’s been moving his head around in all sorts of subtle angles, quirking his lips this way and that, lifting his brows, leaving them flat, biting the insides of his cheeks to mimic dimples, how open his eyes should be - all of these different combinations into the hallway mirror for at least ten minutes now. It’s become a habit. Walk by the mirror, attempt a smile, carry on. Only today he’s determined to get it right. Nobody should be home anyway, and even if they were, nobody’s going to be passing by this mirror, tucked away by the back end of the west wing anytime soon. At least, there wasn’t supposed to be.
His cheeks hurt, his lips and the inside of his mouth is starting to feel raw from rubbing over his braces, and he’s stared so long at himself that he can’t even recognise himself anyway when he sees the most perfect little smirk. Only, it’s not on his mouth.
