If you have questions about TFOUZ world building, do not hesitate to ask them! TFOUZ is not supposed to be easy to understand right off the bat. TSOTM will be updated as frequently as I can, and I will try to answer all questions.
Note: This book should only be read alongside the main series, as it is the baseline of the entire story. The "skeleton", if you will. Now that's not me saying you can't read it if you haven't brushed up on TFOUZ; I'm just saying this will make a lot more sense if you do.Series

Summary
Stanford Pines had once believed Bill Cipher to be the center of his world, that he - above anything else - would always do right and service his muse by whatever way the being required.
That changed thirty years ago, when his assistant saw a glimpse of what the portal could mean for their world. He shut it down, tried to take it all back, but it wasn't enough. Stanford Filbrick Pines had to pay for his sins - at least, Bill Cipher thought so.
He wasn't trying to end the world, but Bill had the kids in his clutches, he was going to kill them.

Stanford Pines was having a nice summer afternoon with his muse, when it was interrupted by a knock on the door and the sudden appearance of two children claiming that they are from the future.
Of course, Ford can help them fix their time machine, what do they take him for? And the kids can stay at his Shack in the meantime. But they seem wary - not of him, but of his muse: what could they know of Bill Cipher? What mystery lies that way?

Alternatively, Dipper and Mabel get a time machine thrown at them on their thirteenth birthday, which sets off, sending them to the times when Ford had still been living in the yet-to-become-Mystery-Shack, and subsequently breaks down. Neither of them are enjoying it - a ruined birthday, more perilous adventures, and constant danger from Bill Cipher's presence?
