Summary
Everyone in Gravity Falls knew to stay away from the forest. People who went in there never come out. No one knew what hid in the darkness behind the trees, and most people weren’t willing to risk being stuck in there forever to find out. Children knew to avoid it on their way home from school, hunters knew if they wanted to go hunting, they would have to make the trip to a neighboring town’s forest, high schoolers knew not to plan parties or bonfires there. There were theories that witches lived there and stole people away for spells, or that there was a monster that ate anyone who entered, or even just a run of the mill serial killer who trapped and killed lost people. Whatever the truth was, it was understood throughout the entire town that the forest was not to be entered.
When Dipper Pines ignores all this and goes into the forest, he meets Bill Cipher, and they try to get out of the forest that no one has got out of together.

After three years of trying and failing to reactivate the portal, Stan realized that he was slowing to a halt. He only had one-third of the journals, and a lot of those instructions and warnings were written in an indecipherable code. And worst of all, he was utterly alone in this world. No brother, no family. Maybe what he needed was a partner by his side.

Stan let out a tired sigh, already guessing what his grandniece would talk about. She and Dipper had been on his case ever since yesterday when they decided to use magical dentures to trick him into telling the truth about every dirty deed they asked about. He would be proud if they just stopped asking So. Many. Questions. About. His. Brother.
Unfortunately, when his brother stepped out of the portal he was...strange. Cagey. Weird. If Ford was an animal, Stan might even say feral.

“The author of the journals,” Stan said, finally standing up. "My brother."
The author of the journals, his brother, looked at the miniscule crowd that had arrived by accident to greet him. The author looked between them all, and Dipper could see reflection on his face from the light of the slowly dimming portal. The author’s gaze finally settled on Stan, and his posture stiffened.
“Dad?” The author of the journals, his brother, choked out. He sounded absolutely baffled.
Stan’s expression turned equally baffled, clearly not anticipating this. “What?”
*** *** ***
The portal has opened, and spat out Stanford Filbrick Pines, exactly as he was when he left. Thirty years has passed for the outside world, but only a few hours have been lost for him.
It changes things. Especially with the worst memories of Ford's life still hot on his tail, and eager to make a reappearance.

Summary
Sarah Pines learns that she wasn't a girl at college. The moment he found out, he told his roommate that he was a boy and to call him Stanford Pines.
He does not tell anyone in his personal life this besides his old college roommate and his Muse. He does not publicly transition either. What would his family think? No he'll do it after he finishes this project. Once that happens he'll cut his hair, use the Voice Serum, and tell the whole world his actual name. That of course all goes out the window once he learns the truth of the portal.

Meanwhile, Stanley Pines, who hasn't seen his sister for over 10 years, spends 30 more years in the town trying to fix up the portal to get her back.
...Though he's starting to suspect that maybe he doesn't exactly have a sister anymore, considering everyone's comments. Especially after a Hillbilly said that he's glad that Stan is starting to be open on who he is.

Summary
Stanley Pines, age 26, wakes up in a park to a nerd staring at him. The kid says his name is Dipper and that he's on a mission to reunite Stan with his brother. Stan doesn't really want to do this, but Dipper is offering to pay, and he says his brother is in trouble. Stanley will always help Stanford, no matter what shit has happened in the past, so he sets off.
Stanford Pines, age 26, wakes up in his house to a teenage girl chatting with his friend, Fiddleford McGucket. The girl- Mabel, supposedly- knows all about his muse and their dalliances because she is, also supposedly, his great-niece from the future. While he does not want to reunite with Stanley necessarily, she essentially blackmails him into being nice when he arrives. Because apparently Stanley is coming to his house. Joy.
(Dipper and Mabel, on the eve of their 18th birthday, are sent back in time to their Grunkles 1 year before the portal is completed. They both, separately and then together, work to fix the mistakes of the past. Featuring a matchmaking Mabel and a scam artist icon Dipper.)

The growling softened. The book stopped shaking.
Dipper lay sprawled on the ground, panting. When he pushed himself up onto his knees, the book didn’t make any more sudden movements. Maybe he’d actually get to read it?
Dipper started to grin, but then he hesitated. Every instinct he had was screaming at him that he was about to be some huge animal’s lunch. He glanced behind him, but didn’t see anyone. Who was watching him?
His gaze slowly moved back to the book.
The book didn’t have eyes, of course, but Dipper couldn’t stave off the feeling that he was being watched. Judged.
A rational person would have turned around and run away. Dipper reached out.

The Journals are not what they seem. And neither is the strange man Dipper keeps dreaming of, who looks eerily like his Grunkle Stan.

Or, five times Wendy formed a bond with the inhabitants of the Mystery Shack, and the one where those bonds became apparent.

Summary
Dipper opened his eyes and found he was lying beneath a tree. The forest around him didn’t look like any he’d seen before, filled with birch trees, covered in the natural markings the trees grew with, but which looked strangely more akin to eyes. He looked down and saw the journal in his hands, but he couldn’t read any of the words. It was all blurry gibberish.
Standing up, he watched as every marking he thought looked like an eye, became an eye, open and glowing yellow and staring at him. Then the forest around him faded, and he was floating in space. Before him appeared a yellow triangle, floating in midair, sporting a bowtie, a top hat, and a large eye. This looked like a colorized version of what he’d just seen in the journal. Bill Cipher. A being the author seemed to believe couldn’t be trusted.
“Well, well, well! Dipper Pines!” Bill said, his body glowing brighter with each word he spoke. “I see you’ve finally made it to Gravity Falls. Congratulations!”

Even though everything turned out mostly okay, there was no denying Weirdmeggedon had sucked. So when Mabel found a Time Tape she suggested they go back in time and... rearrange a few things. After all, nothing bad had happened with time traveling before, right? Besides, it wouldn't be that hard to fix the past. They just had to stop Grunkle Ford from finishing the portal and getting sucked into it.
Easy peasy lemon squeezy.
Right?
