Summary
Simon Butcher and Dr. Ryland Grace had met during the initial stages of Project Hail Mary. Grace worked with the Astrophage and Simon was part of the team that was responsible for the Hail Mary's life support systems. They had hit it off rather quickly, but decided to keep their relationship a secret out of concern of possible repercussions from higher ups.
All was well and good as the launch date approached until the fateful explosion took out the two scientists that were supposed to be sent to space, and Grace had taken their place without any warning for Simon. Not even a goodbye or note. Just gone.
And now he's back, and apparently has decided the relationship between him and Simon never happened.
Meanwhile, the decision for Grace to return to Earth with several Eridians had made him a famous celebrity. This had unfortunately led to the reality of him being stalked by fans and paparazzi alike. When he hides in a flower shop, he is confronted by the scarred and abrasive owner, who acts like Grace has personally wronged him.
Grace was certain the drug-induced amnesia had faded while in space.
So why did seeing this man make his heart hurt? He has all his memories back...
