Summary
When Ilya says “Shane” instead of Hollander, something shifts in him. Panic hits fast and hard, and Shane’s first instinct is to run before the moment can turn into something real.
Ilya doesn’t let him.
“Don’t leave,” Ilya says. “Talk to me.”
Panic and the emotional crash comes to him. Shane feels exposed, needy, and embarrassed by how much he wants to stay, but Ilya keeps him exactly where he is, grounding him.

Based very loosely on events from The Long Game that my brain wanted to put into the first book, somewhere between Shane’s injury, and before Scott Hunter wins the cup - for maximum angst, obviously.
What if Ilya’s plane had actually crashed? And what if it had happened before he and Shane had the chance to confess their love and know what it was like to be together.
Or
A fic so I could write a really needy Shane who can't hide his feelings anymore, and an Ilya who is faced with the undeniable truth that someone cares for him.

All Eddie can do is nod and stutter out, “Anytime you want.”
A spark in her eyes as she unwraps her legs from his and stands. Eddie misses her weight and his fingers twitch to hold her again.
“Anytime? You’d do that for me?”
Eddie would do just about anything to get her sitting on his lap again.
“Yeah, princess. I’ll do you the favor.”
She has to be careful. The feeling of being in control can get too addicting.
It never crosses Eddie's mind to deny Chrissy anything.
