It’s not like he’s embarrassed about getting hit, has been in the line of fire long enough to know that there’s no shame in it, and yet somehow, with this team, he has the overwhelming urge to show as little weakness as possible.
Yelena would have a field day with that line of thinking, would lecture him about trust issues and team cohesion and a slew of other complaints, but what she doesn’t know won’t kill her.
It’s not like any of them trust him, anyway, so it’s all a bit hypocritical.

It’s actually embarrassing how John can watch his face for hours, those pretty eyes, blue like cornflowers, his adorable nose and his thin lips, stretched in a smile half the time they’re together, and the perfect line of his jaw, somehow soft and strong at the same time, which is as absurd as all the sappy thoughts John has about the guy.
