Due to Byleth's new position, Dimitri was accustomed to her countless new companions. From nobles and nuns to knights and orphans, her popularity was unmatched in the expanded kingdom and to see her spread her hand to not just himself but rather the county had always filled him with such unfathomable joy. He'd never seen any reason to have doubts in their bond, or grow possessive, that is, until she mentioned an apparent fond, old friend with a sort of affection she showed only towards him.

Imbued and merged with Sothis from birth, Byleth is raised within the monastery to hone her powers and remain safe. She is treated with all the respect of a goddess; hardly touched, never spoken against. All of Fodlan looks to her with reverent eyes. All, save for the Empire, who after years of preparation have set the stage for their war against the church. For five years she is safe within Rhea's walls, but no longer when a siege is laid against her home. Forcing their hand, Byleth is sent to Faerghus for protection where she meets the ever-elusive King Dimitri, a man more interested in being reclusive than being reverent.

We'd take strolls down the block and pass the garbage cans overflowing with trash and shiny cars owned by men in failing marriages. We'd go to the local park and sit holding hands whilst the woman who lived in the gazebo watched on in envy or anger.
