    "I always thought I'd die first." He spoke into the empty, cold room. "But I never thought it'd be like this."

    That was the only way he could truly describe it. Bruce in a purgatory of his own making. Perhaps he'd died in the fight with the magician. Or maybe he'd broken his neck falling down the stairs of the cave afterwards.

    Or the universe just thought his suffering of some grand quality of hilarity that they packaged him inside a glass and metal coffin to float around his home for all eternity, and let multitudes of beings beyond his comprehension witness his agony.

    Or, Bruce gets trapped in a time loop where Clark doesn't exist.

Bruce Wayne does not help the case when he keeps publicly flirting with Superman through interviews, but Clark Kent doesn't know what to do. Is Bruce just flirting for fun, or is there something deeper here?

    Clark had yet to make any attempt at movement, practically pinned against Bruce not unlike a steel beam himself. He was half-kneeling, half-blanketing Bruce's entire body with his own like a literal human shield. Bruce's heart sank when he realized how eerily quiet and still Clark had been as he'd run through his standard procedures.

    Was Clark okay?

    Batman and Superman get a building dropped on them, and neither of them are doing too great for two very different reasons.

    Bruce tried to work out the words, ask for one last moment of clemency. "Does he..."

    Other-Bruce looked at him with something that almost approached warmth.

    "...He does. In every single universe, he loves you. Even the ones where he tries to kill you. Even the ones where you're penguins. Especially the penguin ones."

    (Inspired by EEAAO) An aftershock of the Rift from Superman (2025) rips through space and temporarily displaces Bruce. What he witnesses in the ensuing journey through alternate--and sometimes absurd--timelines leads him toward the undeniable bond between him and Clark. (Yes, there are hot dogs in this one.)
    (Clark has passed away in one alternate universe. Rest assured, he remains 100% okay in this story's original universe!)

He's gone to extreme lengths to ensure that no one would ever speak those names in the same sentence. So when the Justice League proposes that they share their secret identities with each other, Bruce can't help but wonder how their opinions of him would change if they knew who he was outside the mask. Most importantly, what would Superman think?
