“Hey,” Oliver shouted back, trying to be heard over the music.
“What ‘cha drinking?” the guy asked, voice a rich baritone.
“Anything strong will do,” Oliver replied with an insincere smile. The surface resemblances to Felix were striking, from the height to the way this guy carried himself. But the hair was the wrong shade, his mouth too crooked, eyes too big, shoulders not broad enough, clothes too cheap. He looked like he had to try, put effort into his effortless style, the way he coiffed his hair, the way he was leaning casually into Oliver’s space, even the attempt at a charming twinkle in his eye. But Oliver had lost his rights to touch the original, the masterpiece, the true source of all that was beautiful and important, so the knock-off, this forgery that had so quickly found him would have to do.

“Did someone hurt you?” he asks, and he sounds afraid. For her. Not even angry. She hadn’t realised he’d be that worried about her.
“No – no – ” she gets out. “I’m fucked – I’m so fucked up, Buck, I fucked everything up – I got high and I’m freaking out – I fucked everything up – ” she tries, before dissolving into tears again.

At a party with some friends, May leans in to the college experience a little too hard.
At 2 am, drunk and high and emotionally spiralling, she calls the only adult she knows who might not judge her, and doesn't have kids to disturb. Someone who might unexpectedly just the right person to help her out....
