Summary
"If I don't have Thanksgiving with my brothers I will be permanently scarred. I already have trauma. My therapist says I for sure have PTSD, but it might be C-PTSD, which is like super PTSD, because my life has been so terrible. This could be what caused my C-PTSD. Do you want to give me C-PTSD, R? That's not being a very good caregiver. My emotional needs aren't being met. You're supposed to meet my emotional needs. Enjolras would never give Mateo and Lucas C-PTSD."
Gavroche was an absolute piece of shit.
"This is not trauma informed care!"
Gavroche invites himself (and Grantaire) to Enjolras' Thanksgiving.

Summary
"What if there was?" Combeferre asks abruptly, when she's halfway to her feet.
She stops and blinks at him. "Was what?"
"Someone willing to marry you." There's a flush of pink on his cheeks that's enthralling, but his gaze doesn't waver.
"Then I'd tell them no." Éponine snorts. "Anyone who wants to marry a strange woman sight-unseen is after something, and I've had my fill of being used."
"Someone who's not a complete stranger, then. Someone you've shared a conversation with." He glances around them at the cafe, at the table between them, and clears his throat. "Shared a meal with. What would you say then?"

“Come inside,” Enjolras repeats, when they’re both unmoving. He opens the door wider.
“No,” Grantaire says in explanation. “I won’t be here for long, I’m sure. I just have to tell you something.”

“Your papa has told me you’ve been rather out of humour.”
“I am quite well,” Enjolras assured her, still avoiding to meet Fantine’s eye. “Nothing at all the matter with me.”

Summary
"Grantaire!”
It’s Enjolras. Holy shit, it’s Enjolras.
“Holy shit,” he whispers. “Enjolras?”
“Yes, R, it’s me,” says Enjolras breathlessly from somewhere above him. A hand pulls on his shoulder. Grantaire is alive, somehow. “They’ve moved past this street but we have to go.”
Grantaire lifts his head off the pavement, head swimming. “R?”
“Yes, you, Grantaire. We have to go. Can you walk?” Enjolras is pale, his mouth a thin, fierce line, his eyes alight with anger.
“How do you know my nickname?” asks Grantaire dumbly, his mouth full of grit from the street.
Enjolras tries to pull him upright by the shoulders. “They have water cannons, R, and they’re getting closer. Can we talk about this later?”

Summary
"When two souls, which have sought each other for, however long in the throng, have finally found each other …a union, fiery and pure as they themselves are… begins on earth and continues forever in heaven." -Victor Hugo
It is like this: when a matched pair meet, it is usually not long before the first Touch and then the Words. There is always a stirring under the skin to reach out because humans were never designed to live in isolation. There is a pull that never wavers, quiet and calm under the surface. Denying it only makes it stronger and causes chance meetings again and again until they Touch.
It is like this: even Valjean thinks the number times they have met by sheer coincidence is ridiculous and Javert is frankly sick of it.

Summary
“There are many more of us south of the Wall,” Feuilly told him, not bothering to hide his amusement as Grantaire absorbed the sight of a thousand tents set up in wobbly lines and irregularly-shaped clumps around small clearings where cook fires had been laid. “We did want to come north as soon as possible. We are looking for people we know…”
“Everyone is looking for someone,” Joly said tiredly. “Most of them, anyway.”

Summary
The King has, though Grantaire is certain he does not know it, muzzled Enjolras, for the time being. For Enjolras’ fury is most infectious to those that are most wretched – Grantaire counts himself among them though he is careful to cure potential infections with copious spirits and opioids if a flicker of hope should ever catch him – and now that the people have been given an inch they no longer demand a mile all for themselves. Grantaire understands. Apollo, god that he is, does not.
The god sets to writing speeches, the god whispers in ears to convince them to fight for more.
And so, quietly, the toad takes this task of honoring the fallen upon himself. It is a meager one by comparison, but meager suits him well enough.a.k.a. Grantaire and Enjolras after The June Rebellion doesn't fail.

Summary
As soon as Aubrey Thyme, psychotherapist, had opened her office door and seen her new client, Anthony J. Crowley, sitting in her waiting area, she was observing and assessing him. At first glance, she paid attention to the following:
--His clothing was expensive and stylish;
--He wore very strange but noticeable cologne;
--His relationship to the seat he occupied could only, very loosely, be described as “sitting;”
--He looked angry;
--He was wearing sunglasses. What Aubrey Thyme, a professional, thought, upon first seeing her new client was: you’re going to be a fun one, aren’t you?

Summary
The door has only been opened a smidge when the slender, lithe form of Enjolras, recognizable immediately by the bright red fabric and the golden curls that would make the angels weep in envy, pushes itself through the gap, slamming the wood shut behind him, uncaring of the noise, and panting heavily.
a.k.a. Enjolras comes to Grantaire for help, and both men get more than they bargained for.

Summary
Men like Enjolras belonged in books: those of ancient history, once the uglier facets of reality had been dulled by a forgiving editorial hand, or in poetry; in myths and legends that were by design exemplary, idealised projections, their heroes far too perfect to be wrought of anything but paper and ink.
If Cupid had struck Grantaire with an arrow of gold, he had surely struck Enjolras with an arrow of lead.

Summary
The mark had appeared on Grantaire on his sixteenth birthday, just like everyone else, a black handprint on his body in the place his soulmate would first touch him. He had tried his hardest to stay up and watch it happen, but he had been up every day that week writing a twenty page research paper, and he had fallen asleep a little before midnight and woken up to his alarm blaring at 7:15. He had rushed to the bathroom, excited—the fucking idiocy of it all—to see the spot where his soulmate would first lay hands on him.
Most of his friends had ink black splotches in the shape of fingertips or palms on their hands or wrists, the occasional shoulder or back. Grantaire’s reflection showed a blackened handprint covering his mouth. The very first time his soulmate would ever touch him would be to cover his mouth.

The shop door flew open, sending the bell turning over and over with surprising force. A man, tallish and splotchy-faced in anger, strode in and landed in front of Grantaire, just about too close for comfort.
“May I help you?” asked Grantaire, clutching the flower pot he’d nearly dropped.
“I need you,” said the man, blowing a stray strand of hair away from his forehead. “I need you to tell me how to say 'fuck you' in flower.”

Summary
Arthur could see his father glaring down - face red and eyes narrowed as he looked at Merlin with clear distaste.
"Once this over, sorcerer...I’ll burn you."
"You’ve already tried that," Merlin’s voice answered and Arthur had to bite his fist to keep from making any noise. “You need to accept you can’t kill me… Hand me that blanket, please.”
“I’m sure there must be some method… Beheading?”
“No, we tried that.”
“Hanging?”
“I just sort of... Swung there, remember?”
There was another pause.
“I should have made you keep that dragon below the castle so I could feed you to it.”
“Kilgharrah? He won’t eat me, but if you want to torture me than making me listen to his nonsense for an hour might do it.” Merlin said and there was a soft sigh from the other end of the room. “I’m glad you agreed to help me though. Usually I have to do the grunt work of saving Arthur myself.”
“I can’t wait to kill you.”
Or
Uther finds out about Merlin’s magic, but can’t seem to kill him. Merlin is just trying to protect Arthur. They become a begrudgingly effective duo. Arthur doesn't understand why they think he isn't noticing this.

Summary
This is the end. Grantaire knows it too well. He’s known for days, even before that farce of a brief trial that ended with the “guilty” verdict without even allowing him to open his mouth. He’s known since he saw Jehan’s anguished face in the audience, since they locked him in that filthy cell where not even the sunlight reached him and he always had his feet wet, he’s known since the moment he took the damn gun in his hands.
Or, perhaps, he’s known since the first time he laid eyes on Enjolras and allowed his words to wrap around him, holding him like the spine he lacked.
He regrets so many things, but not the one that has brought him there. He would do it again, a thousand times.
A thousand times, if that meant saving Enjolras’ life.
***
Or, Grantaire takes the blame for Enjolras' crimes and gets sentenced to the gallows. And Enjolras has no option but to try to appeal to divine justice to save him. Luckily, he has a way of manipulating it...
