The man opened his mouth to speak, but nothing came out. His eyes slowly fell shut, as his hand hit his lap, the shot glass breaking on the ground beneath them.
“Nick please…” Vash put his hands on the sides of his cheeks, holding up his now lifeless body, giving him one final kiss.
“I love you… I love you so so much…” was the last words Nicholas D Wolfwood heard, before everything went black.

It’s been five years since the last time Vash saw his brother, watched Knives be led out of the courtroom by a bailiff. He hadn’t look back at Vash once during the trial, and the few times Vash showed up for visitation day, Knives always refused to meet him. He should’ve known that Knives was going to do something like this, showing up with no warning or invitation. His brother always times it perfectly for the moments Vash thinks that their relationship is finally over.
or: Vash’s life is going great. He has a new job, a group of friends he can actually rely on, and is in his first serious relationship. So when Knives shows up after five years in prison, Vash lets himself believe they can be brothers again.

They both know that's a lie. Legato doesn't even bother addressing it. Vash has many qualities, see, and self-preservation has never been one of them.

Summary
A collection of in-universe one-shots that I've been thinking about/writing down for a while. If you're unfamiliar, this is following the canon of the first two fics in this series, so I'd highly recommend reading those first. Each chapter is a standalone one-shot. Length will vary and updates will be sporadic. I'm not sure it'll ever be technically marked as 'finished' as I'll just post as I write, but I have been known to be incorrect before XD
They are not in any particular order, may not all be the same POV, and might be less polished than the first two fics, but it feels disingenuous not to make them available lol
And if you have recs for other potential chapters/scenes you've been curious about, whether hinted at in the prior entries or not, go ahead and drop them in the comments! I can't guarantee they'll all spark something with me or will be written, but I'd love to see them all the same! I have a few more ideas myself lol, namely little scenes that didn't make the final cut of the first two.

Well, it has long since been known to her that Meryl would rather her not view her in that way. They’ve traveled together far too long for Milly to call her ‘Ma’am’ anymore. Honestly, she feels that she’s close enough to her not to, and she’s been referring to her as Meryl for quite some time now. But she’s gotten herself into the habit of viewing Meryl as her superior anyhow, as an ideal. Meryl’s independence, while so shocking and even a bit offensive to her when they first met, has become a quality Milly can say that she admires. This makes it all the more worrying that Milly is looking after her now. Meryl’s always done a wonderful job at taking care of herself, for such a young woman with a disadvantageous stature. And yet, Milly is carrying her on her back, as Meryl rambles drunkenly.
