Maybe he’d fall this time, it didn’t really matter either way. He didn't even have the energy to scold himself for taking the easy way out. Hazy eyes in an impossibly heavy head watching dark rushing water, reflecting distorted and faded stars. No reaction came to his thoughts as the revving of an engine tore through his ears, screeching tires beside him. Nor when a voice shouted, pulling him from the ledge.

Summary
Ratchet, CMO of the Lost Light, has to assemble a medical record for every bot on the ship. One bot in particular is being very stubborn about this.
Each chapter, we see Drift and Ratchet interacting in the present day and Ratchet struggling to cope with Drift's idiosyncrasies. Then we dive in and see how Drift came to be that way through a series of flashbacks. Overall, the story is a story of a fragmented life, lost loves, and seizing happiness wherever you can - juxtaposed against a present day slow-build friendship.

He's an unfathomably small chance for an even smaller piece of the universe to be able to observe its own glory, everything else left to die inside where it's warm. There's no blood out here. No pain. Nothing alive but nothing dead. He stares up into reality itself and it stares right back down at him.
