Summary
How Larry kept getting accused of murder was beyond Phoenix, really. It had happened once, and now it had happened again. When Larry approaches Phoenix for help, it's up to Phoenix to defend him. With Maya by his side, Phoenix was sure that he could handle this trial easily, especially with Winston Payne as the prosecution.
However, as Phoenix is about to unmask the true killer, he is shot in the shoulder.

Squirrelflight, ultimately, chooses Ashfur. He's supportive and kind and as soon as she steps away from Brambleclaw, she begins to wonder how she stayed there so long.
Her problems aren't over, because Brambleclaw is still there, but at least he's not by her side.
alternatively, i rolled time back to 2005, stopped the ashfur villain arc from ever happening, and started telling squirrelflight's story.
