Steve thinks they’re all overreacting.
Like, he understands why—if he gets another concussion graded higher than 0 he’s fucked, and there he was, having spent his whole life trying his damnedest to get as high above a zero wherever grades were involved; life was so fucking weird—but he didn’t even blink longer than normal this time, Jesus H. Christ.
But now—having slipped the grasps of the whole med team after getting the okay on his noggin—Steve was definitely alone in the locker room. And yet: the distinct sound of the ice bath being prepped is somehow echoing through.
He follows the noise; doesn’t exactly want some rando who waltzed in catching him stark naked on their TikTok Live or whatever.
The source of the sound, though, once Steve rounds the last corner toward it, isn’t a rando at all. Not even close.

Turns out: Eddie under the influence comes in a variety of flavors.
High Eddie is languid, touchier than normal which is fucking saying something, and weirdly philosophical.
By comparison: Drunk Eddie's a lovelorn bastard, a little teary with it sometimes, always clingy and a touch extra possessive, and sappier than he gets on even his most sappy days. Once he told Steve that no, he couldn’t let him go take a piss because, and Steve remembers to the word: there’s stardust in my body that’s in your body and that shit’s like magnets, Stevie, like magnets or whatever so my heart’s like pulled to your heart and if you go away without me ever you’ll rip my heart out—because like, kind of declaration sticks with you.
Drunk or not.
But then there’s third flavor, a specific one: and that’s medicated Eddie. And that Eddie, cough-medicine-soaked-to-the-gills?
He’s an adorably giggly little fuck, s'what he is.

Wayne takes a seat in his recliner but leans forward, full attention. It’s not that he wholly doubts that his nephew could, maybe very well has fucked up, he just highly doubts that’s not a particularly dramatic and probably inaccurate way of phrasing it.
Also? If Wayne’s picked up anything about the relationship Eddie’s built over more than a year, now, it’s that it’s one of odd but undeniable equals. Adults, who squabble and shout and sometimes storm out but usually only because they recognize the need to step away, take some air. Adults who disagree, sometimes in big loud ways, but still don’t spend their nights alone.
Almost ever.
So: whatever the fuck up is? Wayne’s…just not too concerned.
“How’s that?”
Eddie’s eyes flick up from what he’s reading, not even scared. More…ashamed.
Devastated, and ashamed.
So Wayne pays extra close attention when Eddie shakes his reading material, oh: a calendar. The calendar. With all the anniversaries on every goddamn day.
Eddie tosses the calendar on the table and moans, despondent:
“I missed one.”

Eddie’d probably be more concerned about the way that this whole thing is eating at him; or more like budding, needing, feeding in the process so Eddie kind of has to feel it consuming him in order for it to grow because duh, that’s how biology works. He’s a high school graduate, now; he knows that kind of shit.
So probably he’d be more concerned if he didn’t know Steve cared, like if it was nothing, just blank indifference meeting with everything inside of Eddie. If it was all of him up against emptiness across the way. But Steve isn’t even across the way. Steve is kinda…next to him; at his side. Always.

Summary
Eddie Munson isn't very good at puzzles.
Well.
He can make them, sure, in the form of weeks-long campaigns for his bandmates and a ragtag group of now sophomores he'd come to adore. He's great at making them. Great at making villains that his party thought they'd had figured out, beaten, only to make a quick 180 and have them come back from the dead for a final, earth-shattering fight. Yeah. He can make them.
What Eddie Munson can't do when it comes to puzzles, is figure them the fuck out. Especially, it seems, when the puzzle comes in the form of a boy one year younger than him and slightly shorter when you don't count his mass of gorgeous hair that makes him, falsely, look taller than Eddie. This puzzle had saved the world with him, had saved him when he was sure he was a goner.
The puzzle's name, of course, is Steve Harrington. King Steve, to many, Hawkins High's golden boy, rich and charming and apparently, a fucking badass.

From middle school to high school, he’d grown about four inches and started training seriously, apparently. So said the width of his shoulders, the way his stupid polo shirts had filled out from him. It made Eddie want to scream; his hair was wild from how many times he’d run his hands through it trying to distract himself from Steve fucking Harrington. His stupid smile and the way his hair fell and the way he looked clean and shiny, like a new penny.
Eddie shoved his head deeper into his locker, trying to ignore the younger boy.

“I mean — I don’t know.”
“It’s okay, Stevie, I’m just fucking with you.” Eddie leaned in as he said it, like he was cheating on a test in class and was afraid someone would hear. But Steve caught his cologne mixed with too much coffee and cigarettes. And the dim light lit his face just right — he looked soft, and it was in that moment that Steve thought about kissing him for the first time.

Eddie Munson is a top. It’s in his bones, his bloodstream, hell, maybe even his DNA. It’s simply meant to be that way. Birds fly, fish swim, and Eddie fucks men, and he does it very well.
It’s not that Eddie hasn’t bottomed before. He’s hooked up with more than a few guys during his time, but it was never anything real; just a few hurried, meaningless things when he’s gone out of town.
He’s a slow lover, a caring one who feels his partner’s pleasure like it’s his own. Sure, he likes being in control, but it’s not only for him.
