Shen Yuan plays video games a little too loudly. Luo Binghe, trying to sleep, knocks on his door.
This changes the trajectory of his life forever.
- - -"Shutting the door, Shen Yuan leaned against the back of it, his heart beating oddly fast. He put his headphones back on.
'Hey, I’m back. …Yeah, I woke up my neighbor. Well maybe I wouldn’t be yelling if you’d keep your hands off my crops!'
'Our crops, comrade,' said the tinny voice from his headphones. 'So, this the neighbor you’ve never seen?'
He gave one last look at his door before picking the controller back up. 'Yeah. He seemed nice. He probably hates me now, though.'
...
Luo Binghe’s only thought, as he walked away from Shen Yuan’s door, was: 'I want to be that man’s wife.'

Summary
There are plenty of skills one can pick up in the Endless Abyss if curious or just desperate enough. The shape changing had been explained as being able to look like other people. This isn’t what happens when Luo Binghe tries it. What happens is that he’s transformed into a tiny dog with masses of curly black fur.
When he catches his reflection while transformed, his first thought is, Shizun would definitely want to pet me.
(Or, the one where Luo Binghe can turn into a dog, infiltrates Qing Jing, and seeks Shizun's affections through fluffy subterfuge)

When it was all said and done, Shen Qingqiu comforted himself that the end of the plot meant that, surely, all major events were out of the way. They were firmly in HEA territory and he could relax a little. Right? Right.

Summary
Shen Yuan, a Qing Jing researcher with low cultivation and an unhealthy interest in the demonic entities that crawl out of the rift in the abyssal zone of the ocean, gets his hands on an amulet to allow him to personally travel down there to conduct his studies. It gives him an aquatic spiritual form, with fascinating traits to help him survive at the bottom of the sea.
The problem is that he’s not only being allowed down there for his research. Twenty years ago, the levels of demonic energy emanating from the rift rose and haven’t fallen since. Cang Qiong monitors the coast, certain that there’s a powerful entity down there, lurking, biding its time. If possible, Shen Yuan is meant to find and report on that entity—but the chances of him actually stumbling across it are low enough to basically be zero, right?
Or: There is a creature at the bottom of the ocean. It takes exception to having its territory crossed over.
