Summary
Xisuma is fine to continue to exist within the suit. It is comfortable enough, and even on the days when it is not - some errant glitch or malfunction - it is fine, who is he to complain when it lets him enjoy the company of those he has grown close to. But over the years, Xisuma finds the yearning nesting in his chest, to reach out and touch someone's hand with out the padded under suit or armour in the way, for someone to touch his face or rub his back after a long day and actually feel it: not just imagine it through the layers of metal.
Simple, human, comforts the suit restricts him from.

Summary
Gem shouts, a wordless angry noise, and strikes at the unprotected chest of the closest player. He can’t watch beyond that, spinning to meet the second and catching another blow that could have met Gem’s unprotected back. His shield splinters at the edge from the next, and then Gem is there. Her leading ax-strike nearly takes off her opponent’s arm, the following sword neatly severs head from neck.
It's not ideal, but he'll do whatever he can to get them back to the Hermits. Even if that means pushing through the sacrifice he's already made, and taking advantage of the one he is supposed to protect.
Even if that means confronting his own vulnerability afterwards, and sharing it with her.Series

The Moon falls. The Hermits have to rebuild after the ordeals of season 8, but none moreso than Xisuma and Evil X. Xisuma deals with his perceived failures as Hermitcraft's protector. Evil X finds himself forced to stay among the Hermits. Both have trauma after their mind control.Series

If Joel had a list of all the people he wouldn't mind ending up stuck in a bunker with, it would start with Lizzie and spread out from there - Jimmy, Grian, Martyn; maybe Etho or Gem?
It would notably not include Xisuma Void.This situation is not improved when a storm triggers some kind of panic attack from Xisuma that Joel does not know how to help with and would really, really like to X to stop having.
