Imagine that when Loki, Thor, Sif and the warriors three went to Jotunheim and the frost giant touched Loki, instead of panicking, the Jotun soldier revealed Loki to the others, cheering him as their long-lost prince.

The deep voice shook under the giant king’s rage, his hands curled into fists as a new and sharper ice-blade formed around his arm, no one ever dared to talk over the All Father; Odin looked down, silenced, and for a brief moment his and Loki’s gaze met; the prince could see the remorse eating away at his father’s wrinkled expression.

Summary
Just after dealing with Malekith, Thor returns to Asgard to tell his father (the "wise" king whose wisdom no one will ever surpass) that he would "rather be a good man than a great king." He doesn't get a chance to make this very interesting statement, as he is met with the discovery that Loki is not only alive again, but also a child of 250-300 years (or the equivalent of a 5-6 year old) who doesn't remember any of his life past that age.
I.e. Thor unintentionally volunteers to be his, now much younger, brother's dad for who knows how long even though Thor has no idea what a good father looks like. I had wanted to write something where Loki and Thor develop a healthier relationship and work through their issues, and then I rewatched Lilo and Stitch and got inspired.
I'm going to try to keep the characterization and whatever plot elements as true to mcu canon as I can manage. We'll see how that goes.

As the newly named King of Asgard, Valkyrie has a duty to oversee the expansion and development of her people's settlement. That gets a lot more difficult when Loki shows up, Tesseract in hand and fresh off his attempted invasion of New York. With his brother off-world, Valkyrie has to keep Loki from escaping or actively getting in the way of New Asgard's progress until Thor makes his return. But when Loki begins experiencing a flood of vivid and disruptive visions from the life he was meant to be living after his defeat at the hands of the Avengers, Valkyrie finds herself needing to do everything in her power to keep him glued to his present self, or risk losing his mind.

Post "Thor".
Loki is dead. Loki took his own life rather than face his family for another moment, and Thor doesn't understand why it had to come to this. Cast away on Earth, he was as unaware of the sequence of events that led to the shattering of the Bifrost as he was helpless to stop them.
Odin and Frigga do know why, however, and even if they're too late to spare one son with the truth, they can do that much for the child they have left. At long last, they tell Thor the truth about Loki, how he came to be a part of their family, and where he came to them from. The revelations and the horror that go along with them nearly break Thor as well. However, he does his best to struggle along under the weight of memories of a better past, for the sake of giving his little brother a proper farewell.

Summary
(Takes place between "The Mighty Thor #1 - The Galactus Seed" and "Journey Into Mystery #622 - Fear Itself Fallout")
Thor is no fool. It is impossible to miss the scorn, abuse, and pain his brother faces by just trying to get through the day in an Asgard that holds him responsible for the crimes of a dead man. Thor does what he can to support the boy he brought back into this world, to be there and be a good brother in ways that perhaps he was not last time. But Thor cannot always stay by Loki's side, and so sometimes all he knows of the abuse is the way Loki flinches.
And sometimes, all he knows of how much it all truly weighs on Loki are the cracks that form in his brother's smiling mask, and the dead look in his eyes when he thinks no one is watching.
Kid Loki reaches a breaking point, and Thor tries to pull him back.
