Summary
Written for H/C Bingo on Dreamwidth, prompt "homesickness".
Loki escapes imprisonment in Asgard, and flees to Jotunheim. Time passes, and he thinks Asgard means to leave him exiled. But one day, in his lonely wanderings, he comes across Thor, half dead in the snow. Against his better judgment, Loki reaches out to save the man who was once his brother. But he's spent a long time in Jotunheim, and taken to wearing his true form just to get by.
Thor doesn't recognize him, at first. Matters spiral out of control from there, as Thor and Loki both try to find some common ground with each other, and see eye to eye long enough to figure out what the future holds for them both.

(Takes place post "The Mighty Thor #12 - Shattered Heroes" and pre-"New Mutants #1 - Exile")
Loki is not used to being taken care of. He is a child, but most of Asgardia seems to ignore that and he tries to forget it as often as possible. He's forced to take care of himself, more often than not, because he has too many enemies even within the walls of Asgardia who would seize upon a moment of weakness to weaken him further. Loki cannot afford to seem the child that he is.
So when he falls deathly ill, Loki does not expect to be picked up off the floor of his room by Thor when his brother returns to Asgardia. He does not expect to be brought to Volstagg's house for safekeeping while he recovers, and he certainly does not expect the care and aid he receives in recovering from a man who last told him to stay away.
All of these things happen, however, impossible as they seem. For perhaps the first time in his reborn life, Loki knows what it is to be taken care of. It can't possibly last, but he can learn to enjoy it while it does.

After the battle of New York, Loki was banished to Midgard as punishment. For four years Thor has been hunting him, and Loki has managed to evade him at every turn- until now. What’s left of his magic is rapidly diminishing, and his new-found mortality is making itself painfully apparent. Evading Heimdall’s gaze takes every bit of energy he has left, so much so that Loki doesn’t dare waste his magic on finding food or securing shelter. Because he knows that if Heimdall gets so much as a glimpse at him, Thor will find him. What Thor would do exactly, Loki didn’t know. But whether his false brother would bear revenge of his own or not, Loki trusted that he wouldn't live to experience Thor's reckoning.
Dying hadn’t been part of the plan, but it was quickly becoming the better option.

The deep voice shook under the giant king’s rage, his hands curled into fists as a new and sharper ice-blade formed around his arm, no one ever dared to talk over the All Father; Odin looked down, silenced, and for a brief moment his and Loki’s gaze met; the prince could see the remorse eating away at his father’s wrinkled expression.

Just after dealing with Malekith, Thor returns to Asgard to tell his father (the "wise" king whose wisdom no one will ever surpass) that he would "rather be a good man than a great king." He doesn't get a chance to make this very interesting statement, as he is met with the discovery that Loki is not only alive again, but also a child of 250-300 years (or the equivalent of a 5-6 year old) who doesn't remember any of his life past that age.
I.e. Thor unintentionally volunteers to be his, now much younger, brother's dad for who knows how long even though Thor has no idea what a good father looks like. I had wanted to write something where Loki and Thor develop a healthier relationship and work through their issues, and then I rewatched Lilo and Stitch and got inspired.
I'm going to try to keep the characterization and whatever plot elements as true to mcu canon as I can manage. We'll see how that goes.

With his brother off-world, Valkyrie has to keep Loki from escaping or actively getting in the way of New Asgard's progress until Thor makes his return. But when Loki begins experiencing a flood of vivid and disruptive visions from the life he was meant to be living after his defeat at the hands of the Avengers, Valkyrie finds herself needing to do everything in her power to keep him glued to his present self, or risk losing his mind.

Loki is dead. Loki took his own life rather than face his family for another moment, and Thor doesn't understand why it had to come to this. Cast away on Earth, he was as unaware of the sequence of events that led to the shattering of the Bifrost as he was helpless to stop them.
Odin and Frigga do know why, however, and even if they're too late to spare one son with the truth, they can do that much for the child they have left. At long last, they tell Thor the truth about Loki, how he came to be a part of their family, and where he came to them from. The revelations and the horror that go along with them nearly break Thor as well. However, he does his best to struggle along under the weight of memories of a better past, for the sake of giving his little brother a proper farewell.

(Takes place between "The Mighty Thor #1 - The Galactus Seed" and "Journey Into Mystery #622 - Fear Itself Fallout")
Thor is no fool. It is impossible to miss the scorn, abuse, and pain his brother faces by just trying to get through the day in an Asgard that holds him responsible for the crimes of a dead man. Thor does what he can to support the boy he brought back into this world, to be there and be a good brother in ways that perhaps he was not last time. But Thor cannot always stay by Loki's side, and so sometimes all he knows of the abuse is the way Loki flinches.
And sometimes, all he knows of how much it all truly weighs on Loki are the cracks that form in his brother's smiling mask, and the dead look in his eyes when he thinks no one is watching.
Kid Loki reaches a breaking point, and Thor tries to pull him back.
