Summary
Princess Twilight Sparkle is set to become ruler of Equestria, and Flash Sentry has been granted a personal invite to her coronation. Seeing the invite brings back memories and thoughts of the heroic pony Flash has quietly admired from afar for years, but he never believed anything would come of it. Little does he know, the invite was directly orchestrated by Princess Cadance, who's had a sense for Twilight and Flash's attraction to each other since the beginning.
For Twilight, romance has been the least of her concerns, being so focused on her new role and duties. When the possibility of romance opens to her, she hesitates. Knowledge of an alternate world, and an alternate Flash Sentry, muddies her thoughts, leaving Twilight to seek council from the only pony she could think would understand her feelings.
Will this tale of a knight and a princess end in happily ever after, or will their story end before it's even written?

"You're staring," Sunset said, keeping her voice low but firm, unnoticeable to anyone but the lovesick blonde.
Applejack jumped as if scalded, snapping her gaze back to her geography book with such force her pencil clattered to the floor. "Am not!" she hissed back, bending down to retrieve it, her cheeks instantly flooding with a deep, unmistakable crimson that spread from her neck to her temples. She straightened up, glaring defensively at Sunset. "Just listenin' to my friend is all. Payin' attention."
Sunset arched a perfectly sculpted eyebrow, a faint, knowing smile playing on her lips. She leaned closer, her voice dropping to a conspiratorial whisper. "I mean, she's my friend too, but I don't make goo-goo eyes and practically drool when she says 'darling'."

Applejack couldn’t stop smoothing out her blazer on the walk to the Christmas party Rarity was hosting at the boutique. It wasn’t as if she’d been informed at the last minute, hell she’d been looking forward to it weeks before exam week had even started, but as she put up a hand to thank the car letting her cross the street, she noticed just how sweaty her palms were. Granny and Apple Bloom had insisted she bring a bottle of apple cider as a “housewarming gift,” as she’d missed the opening party the month prior, and approaching the building she saw in her dreams and over FaceTime calls, she was suddenly glad for the heavy grounding bottle under her arm. The blonde caught herself adjusting the neck of her outer layer again, subconsciously doing so, and groaned aloud into the night, running a hand through her newly cut hair instead while the other kept the bottle from making pleasant acquaintance with the concrete. Even that didn’t scratch the itching need to fidget. She felt too dressed up for the Christmas party, and yet she couldn’t help but feel nowhere near nice enough to see her soon-to-be-official, if all goes well, girlfriend for the first time since August.
