    Summary

He raised his head, took Morse in properly for the first time and almost called out in surprise.
Bright-eyed, actually decent suit, and had he put on a few pounds, just enough to make him look healthy?
If a few weeks of leave could do this, he really should take a vacation himself.
    And then -
The biggest surprise of all, and even that was an understatement.
Morse turned, then pointed down the next street to their left. “If I am right, the attackers came from there.”
Peter would have liked to discuss that theory, but he was rather distracted by something.
Mainly, the new ring glinting on Morse’s finger.
And this was far from the only surprise the day had in store -

    Summary

Nella Rose Potter, the Girl Who Lived.
Under the stairs at the moment, though not for long. She's about to receive a letter that will make things a whole lot worse before they get better.
     ***

“I am not in the habit of returning house points once they have been lost, Miss Potter. Among us little people at least, choices have consequences. If that’s all —”

“It’s not that, sir,” she hastened to explain, surprising him once more. Most students were only too eager to latch onto anything that resembled a dismissal from his presence, and no one — ever — interrupted him. “I-I understand. I just… I live with my aunt and uncle, you see. They’re muggles.”

Snape didn’t answer, but the girl plowed doggedly on.

“Well, th-there was an a-accident at the end of the summer, sir. S-some of my potions ingredients spilled in my trunk, and I didn’t know w-what to do... M-my relatives thought I might get help at school?”

She swallowed hard, then reached into her bag and pulled out a horror of a textbook. The entire mold-stained cover slid off as she moved to set it on his desk, and a handful of ragged pages scattered as the book block landed on his desk with a damp thud.

    Summary

When Matthew Crawley, a partner at Swire, Weatherby & Crawley, posted an ad for an articled clerk at The Times, he did not expect to end up facing the most beautiful woman he’s ever seen the very next morning.

“Mr Crawley, let me first state several facts to save time. First of all, I am not here to seek a position as a secretary; I want to be your articled clerk to become a solicitor, which the Sex Disqualification Act does allow me to attempt if I find a qualified solicitor willing to be my supervisor. Yes, my title is real and my father is an earl, but it has no bearing on the fact that I want to become a solicitor. No, I won’t leave your firm halfway through my apprenticeship to get married since I already am. No, I won’t be missing work all the time to take care of my children, since I don’t have any. No, I won’t quit halfway through the apprenticeship to have a baby, since it’s highly unlikely I’m going to get pregnant any time soon. Yes, I am very sure of that. No, I am not just here to waste your time, assuming your ad in the jobs section of The Times is genuine and you’re really looking for an apprentice. If it’s not, you’re wasting my time.”
