Summary
Seong Gi-hun has given up hope.
With his best friend dead, Young-il killed, and the blood of several others on his hands, he knows that he and his mission are over. His next move is to try to keep as many of his newfound companions safe, no matter what happens to him.
If he has to sacrifice himself for the people around him, so be it.

Hwang In-ho watches as Gi-hun is forced back into the room with the other players.
He sees that the fight has left him.
In-ho knows, if he doesn’t step in, Gi-hun will be dead by the next game. This should be good news- he has incited a rebellion after all, him gone would be one less problem on In-ho’s plate.
So why does he feel heavy to think of Gi-hun dying?
There’s only one way for In-ho to keep tabs on Gi-hun and keep him alive for a later date: to re-enter the game.
“Young-il?”

Summary
Divorced, jaded Seong Gi-hun had already been having a terrible day - fired from his job, all his money stolen from him, and with no present to give his only daughter on her tenth birthday, he really thought things could not get any worse. Until, of course, his ex-wife tells him she'll be taking his daughter to America by the end of the year and there was nothing Gi-hun could do to stop it.
Desperate, furious and sad, there really was no way it could get any worse. So when a handsome but strange man approached him to play a game, Gi-hun decided he might as well say yes. A few slaps and a 100,000 won later, he has a strange card in his hand and a job offer he might not be able to refuse.
His life was about to get a whole lot stranger and a lot more dangerous. But, if he plays just right, it might just get a whole lot better as well.

Summary
Then that's when he saw it. Subtle, barely noticeable, but unmistakably there. Gi-hun had twitched. He stopped, turning back around and kneeling down to his level. He gently removed his glove, then slowly placed two fingers on the pulse point of his neck.
Yes.
or
Gi-hun doesn’t die in the last game, and In-ho does everything in his power to save him.
