Summary
The overhead lights start to flicker and a metallic groan echoes through the plane. Then there’s another jolt and the plane dips sharply.
With a gasp, Buck reaches for Eddie, who does the same, and they clasp each other’s hand tightly as they look at each other with wide eyes.
This isn’t just turbulence and everybody on this plane knows it. They’re going to crash.
Or: Buck and Eddie are in a plane crash that leaves them stranded in the wilderness and fighting for their lives together.

Summary
There’s a panic within him that Lestat hasn’t felt for years when the sunlight streams in a perfect circle containing Claudia and Louis’s fledgling, a panic he hasn’t felt since the night he felt tainted blood rise to his throat and the love of his life drag a knife across it. It’s the panic of an ending unexpected, of a rug yanked from beneath him. He made his choice. He chose Louis. He knew if it came down to using his abilities to sway the audience, he only had the power for one. It wasn’t even something he had to think about. It was Louis. It was always going to be Louis.
But it’s Claudia before him now, looking back at him with a daughter’s eyes even as her face begins to crumble into ash.
(canon divergence au in which lestat finds a way to save claudia, too)

Summary
It's not that Daniel distrusts Johnny. Not anymore. It’s hard to when he looks at him and remembers that night outside the dojo, Johnny through the shattered window, the nod he gave in answer to the question Daniel couldn’t even ask. They’re on the same side now, and for once, Daniel believes it.
But some part of him is still sixteen and running faster than he’s ever run in his life on Halloween night. Some part of him is still climbing the fence with Johnny’s arm reaching up to grab him around the waist.
He can’t help it, standing across from Johnny Lawrence in the back garden of Mr. Miyagi’s house thirty years too late. He hesitates.
(or, on newton's laws of motion, classic rock, and the intricate rituals involved in touching your former karate rival.)

Summary
No one has ever painted grief the way Evan Buckley does tonight. Even last night in the kitchen, with his steel jaw and shimmering eyes, that sharp and sure sorry I’m sad that Bobby’s dead, falls short of this husk. Through the mourning and the funeral, through the gaping silences Bobby used to fill and the tear-soaked prayers for this all to be a wretched lie, Buck has never looked so hollow.
For someone so loud and tall, all-encompassing and bright, he’s sickeningly good at making himself small, at curling up like a dog in the pound. It’s jarring to see him like this after dinner tonight, where he’d been so open and booming. Laughing and poking fun at Eddie, catching up with Chris, waxing poetic over Pepa’s cooking — he’d been happier than Eddie had seen him in ages. He’d been okay, nothing like the shell Eddie had snarled at in the kitchen. He’d been fixed.
