Donnie became a famous inventor, Mickey traveled the world showing his art, and Raph and Leo restarted Splinter's line of dojos. April's career as a journalist took off, and Casey finally went to school. They were okay. They were happy.
They finally got their happy endings.
Until Draxum found something horrible.

There's something wrong with Leo. He hasn't said as much to his family, but he's having visions--visions that he thinks are of a future that's on fire. And, worst of all, he keeps seeing his brothers' deaths. Over and over again. There's nothing he can do to stop them.
Except wait. Wait and change the present.
It all starts with a museum break-in. And Leo is determined to get the Key and keep it.

”Casey?” He called for his protege. He didn't receive a response causing the older turtle to swallow. “Casey Jones, where are you? This isn’t funny!”
The turtle frowned, gaze lifting to the buildings surrounding him, the honking of cars and finally the night sky.
He stared up at the sky in awe.
He hadn’t seen the moon or the stars in years.
Not since the Kraang took over.
It had changed to a hideous red that replicated the colour of blood.

Where Casey forces his Sensei to come to the past with him, causing the two to separate and Leonardo takes this opportunity to steal the key.

CJ takes Leo with him as they go back to the past, everything going to plan even though they both get separated from each other. Leonardo get's the key and finds his family from the past, April finding CJ. This go as well as they could with Leonardo being traumatized from the invasion but unfortunately even after a heart to heart, Leo grabs the key to hopefully learn more from Draxum, unfortunately he doesn't even get there before he's attacked.

Summary
All of his life, Michelangelo has been the glue that held his family together. No one asked him to, no one told him to, he just took it upon himself one day to dry tears and remind his family they are loved.
And when the world ended Mikey gathered up all the people he could reach into his arms and shielded them from the roaring tsunami that threatened to consume them all, and when the waves claimed some of the people he protected he just held tighter and refused to let the remaining ones shatter.
He has seen thousands and thousands of people die, felt when their spirits left the physical plane and went somewhere he couldn’t protect them, and with every death the fire in his chest burned brighter and brighter.
So when the resistance fell and his only remaining sibling asked him to sacrifice himself to send their last hope to the past, Mikey called upon that roaring bonfire in his chest and said, “We’re not letting anyone else die.”
