Summary
Dick has gone multiple years and lived multiple lives without the full context of what happened that night. As far as he's been aware, the night he stepped aside was the night blockbuster died, was the night he stayed in a ratty motel, was the night he thought about ending it all. It’s not something he tries to dwell on. It was a bad day for sure. But when he thinks of the extent of bad things that happened that night, that’s about as bad as it gets, right? I mean, he's been OK for years. So, what's different now?
Unforeseen conditions during a burglary gone wrong create the perfect storm inside Nightwing as long repressed memories come back to the surface.

Herman's eyes brim with tears, face flushed as he whimpers. The cheap plastic chair creaks under their combined weight. Herman's voice breaks on a strangled moan, the sound raw and utterly wrecked as it tears from his throat. Fresh tears streak down his already flushed cheeks, his breath hitching between desperate sobs.
