Kakashi doesn't look away from him, his sharingan spinning like he wants to remember Gai's face in his last moment. "No one will miss you anyway." And Gai can feel it, the Raikiri cutting through his body.
He wants to scream, but blood is filling his mouth, drowning every sound in a wet gurgle, and his body is spasming, fighting against his bindings, trying to escape the pain even though he can't move.
He can feel a hand gripping at his heart, and it's a wonder that he's still alive, when the hand clench tight around the beating organ.

Summary
Banished from Tav’s good graces for being insufferable, Gale and Astarion drown their sorrows, play dress-up, and discover that maybe they weren’t competing for Tav's heart so much as auditioning for each other’s. The Shadowcurse creeps into undead flesh like frost. Gale applies the most logical solution to save Astarion: full-body contact. For science. Obviously.
Gale can cuddle Astarion warm through their first night in the Shadow-Cursed Lands—but if he thinks he gets to save someone else while planning to sacrifice himself, Astarion has a few objections to make.
Canon compliance: Takes place in Act 2 just after arriving in the Shadow-cursed Lands and is mostly compliant except for the way the shadowcurse works (see notes)
